MISSION Operate reconnaissance into the Valdore Nebula; Investigate potential Romulan Star Empire activity.

OUTCOME Large defunct ancient space station discovered; evidence of high enemy activity; encrypted communication to Rator III cloned and sent for deciphering.

KEY PERSONNEL

  • CAPT Morton, Coby
  • CMDR Blake, Kara
  • CMDR Warner, Ruke
  • LCDR Talercio, Jullie

NARRATIVE Under orders of this officer the USS October reported to the edge of the Valdore Nebula, suspected staging grounds of Roman Star Empire Forces currently engaging allied forces within the Tri’Vokil system. Upon arrival it was immediately clear due to the density and electromagnetic energy that sensors wouldn’t be operational and couldn’t penetrate the nebula itself, as such under advisement of Commander Warner a daisy chain of Class Three probes were launched in an effort to feed data obtained back for review.

Due to the wreckage surrounding the nebula and within, remains of the Earth-Romulan war, the USS October’s size would have made transversing forward difficult without large risk to the vessel and her crew, as such the Aquarius class USS Shrewsbury was launched with Commander Kara Blake commanding the excursion.

After an uneventful journey through the nebula the USS Shrewsbury became aware of a T’Varo class warbird within their wake, Commander Blake ordered a full stop and the assumed hostile craft passed without incident or apparent detection. Following projections, the USS Shrewsbury discovered the T’Varo was heading to a defunct and appearing ancient space station, at which point a large number of Romulan vessels began to decloak. It was at this stage a transmission was detected from one of the warbirds being sent to Rator III; Commander Warner suggested a method in which the transmission could be flash-cloned, with Lieutenant Commander Talercio performing the operation successfully.

Commander Blake ordered return from the Nebula to the USS October and upon embarkment the transmission has been sent for decryption.

RECOMMENDATION While Romulan presence within the Nebula isn’t too much of a shock, the alarming number present is evidence that Task Force elements should be on heightened alert when patrolling grounds adjacent to the Valdore region.

Should deciphering of the transmission be successful, we will be able to learn more potentially about the current situation on Rator III as well as a means of patching into further encrypted communications hopefully undetected. Our findings should be reported and shared with our newly formed flotilla allies now operating within the region.

As an aside, it should be anticipated that with knowledge of Rator III’s previously reported methods of breaking through nebula interference that Star Empire forces have been able to adapt to operational standards above our own inside of the afflicted region.

RECOGNITION Commander Blake lead a successful mission without incident and appears to have used excellent judgement when taking advice and suggestions from officer’s under her command. Commander Warner offered several suggestions and alternatives, while not all were utilised, proved paramount to success under Commander Blake and this officer is personally grateful for having an officer of Mister Warner’s caliber board ship.

OOC Thank you @Garak234 for another interesting and fun mission, it’s always appreciated. In terms of the transmission it would have been sent to some well-skilled code breakers aboard the October and then to 38th Fleet intelligence, should they have failed, it would have been sent straight through to 38th Fleet Intelligence to have a go.

ADDENDUM This addendum serves as the Fleet Intelligence analysis of the information gathered by the USS October in its mission to reconnoiter the Valdore Nebula and to investigate Romulan Star Empire Activity.

Historically, Romulan Star Empire warships rarely operate outside of the Empire’s borders for purposes of science or exploration. In a vast majority of observed encounters with such warships, there is a set purpose to their actions in order to benefit the Empire militarily or through the gathering of intelligence. In this case, the USS October’s mission has revealed a clear gathering of a large contingent of military vessels hailing from the Star Empire in the Valdore nebula. As such, it is the opinion of this officer that the identity, purpose, and capabilities of this ancient space station be of top priority for future Intelligence gathering missions in the region.

Ancient structures are not always a cause for concern - they are, more often than not, simply defunct and outdated structures remaining in their orbits for extended periods of time. However, there are documented cases of technology from civilizations lost to time or simply opting to remain secret that defy conventional understanding of technology. Given the interest in the Romulan Star Empire in this structure, and the amount of security they have dedicated to it, it is the opinion of this officer that there is a high likelihood that this station might represent a military, intelligence, or technological advantage that the Empire is attempting to secure. Should they be successful in this, there may be negative consequences to the security and stability of the region, if not an outright shift in power between the Empire, the Romulan Republic, and the Federation.

As per Starfleet Intelligence standards, this officer’s recommendation is as follows - in the short term, priority should be given towards the unscrambling of the coded message sent by Romulan forces and intercepted by the crew of the USS October. This message may give Starfleet forces in the area more information, with which future operations can be better planned. Long range surveillance of the target location should be continued, and any historical data on the region should be gathered as well, with special focus on archaeological and xenosocietal studies conducted in the area. This may give further evidence as to the purpose of the station. Once more intelligence is uncovered as to the identity and capabilities of the station, follow-on actions can be better decided.

ADDENDUM Attached to this report; Deciphered Encrypted Communication. Officers accessing this report should refer to previous After Action Reports relating to the current Tri’Vokil political climate as well as previous hostile engagement.

T’Varo Warbird:IRW Vreenak to Command. We have located the alien construct. I fail to see why we need to keep wasting time on this, though. Starfleet has increased its presence in the Tri’Vokil System. Our window of opportunity to annex the Free State is closing.

Command: It is not your place to offer your opinion. Your place is to beam your teams aboard and acquire information from the constructs computers. Have you identified any intact modules?

T’Varo Warbird: We have. We are sending marines down now to secure the area. Stand by.

–

T’Varo Warbird: The information here is… considerable. While I do not think any technology here is viable, the designs we have acquired could in fact be feasible. Especially in light of a combined RRF-Starfleet presence.

Command: You see, Commander? This is not a waste of time. Of course, we will need to adapt this. Please return to Rator III once you are done. And… do not destroy anything on the station. We may need to return if questions arise.

T’Varo Warbird: I do see. But, I should stress that every SINGLE operation so far has failed. That little gambit with those torpedoes? Starfleet and the RRF thrashed us. Shouldn’t we start looking into the individuals instead of playing with archaic alien garbage?

Command: We are already inquiring about their leadership.

T’Varo Warbird: Inquiring? We should go after them and remove them from the picture. But, later. I need support in regards to this technology.

Command: We will send additional warships to your position. And yes, we are considering such a prospect. I will explain more when you return to Rator III. Subcommander V’ael out.

RECOMMENDATION USS October is remaining on station to launch further investigation into Romulan Star Empire Activity within the Valdore Nebula. It’s become clear that enemy forces believe and have potentially collected prudent data from the defunct starbase.

Under the current circumstance of the situation in the Tri’Vokil system, evidence of further allied resources arriving on station seems to have had the desired affect at deterring RSE attack- however as also evident here, they are now instead bolstering their forces.

Task Force elements to remain on heightened alert on boarder patrol.

MISSION Operate reconnaissance into the Valdore Nebula; Investigate erratic energy readings originating from ancient space station.

OUTCOME Discovery of Ancient Space Station’s Origin; Retrieval of Passive Analysis; Discovered missing data presumed collected by Romulan Star Empire forces.

KEY PERSONNEL

  • CAPT Morton, Coby
  • CMDR Blake, Kara
  • CMDR Warner, Ruke
  • CAPT Thys th’Allegro
  • LCDR Talercio, Jullie

NARRATIVE Following a brainstorming session with senior staff of the USS October this officer ordered a return into the Valdore Nebula to investigate potential site theft and Romulan Star Empire activity aboard the defunct ancient space station, following a deciphered transmission alluded to potential mission related assets.

This officer (under protest of Commander Ruke Warner) lead the parasite craft Shrewsbury on a return course to the defunct space station, upon arrival we discovered a distinct lack of Romulan Star Empire activity and it was deemed safe and appropriate for a boarding party to EV inside for investigation.

Captain of Engineering Thys th’Allegro and Chief Tactical Officer Ruke Warner lead an away team through several sections of the station, the two senior officer’s finding themselves within what is presumed to be the bridge of the space station itself. Aside from an in-active mine, the excursion was without incident and power was restored to several terminals. Captain th’Allegro discovered that the space station itself bared markings of the Tkon Empire, an ancient civilisation which under review has had it’s remains encountered on several occasions once notably by the crew of the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-D, under the command of ADM Jean-Luc Picard.

The station was deemed un-hostile appearing to be a large database (library) of ancient texts and technological blueprints. During what took several hours Commander Warner was able to discover that a section was missing from the archives having been manually ripped from the databanks; a sectional information docket on what appears to be translated as “Sensor inhibiting technology and stealth inhibiting technology”.

The archives themselves were missing and unavailable for review, however with the likelihood of Romulan Star Empire possession assets operating within the Tri’Vokil region should be on high alert and under the assumption progress using these archives has already been made.

RECOMMENDATION Further monitoring of the Valdore Nebula to be planned pending review of collected passive data; USS October to return to formation and continue preparing for potential Romulan Star Empire assault. Data collected to be shared with 38th Fleet assets and naturally sent to Deep Space Thirteen’s intelligence department for analysis and review.

Resources to be shared with the 11th Flotilla operating within the region as potential anti-stealth technology could seriously damage any potential attempts of attack/recourse from the flotilla without afore mentioned knowledge.

RECOGNITION Commander Blake again shows promise in her career, leading the mission without fault. Commander Warner showed excellent initiative, via logs of the Captain of Engineering, it’s reported he offered intuitive suggestions that lead to mission criteria success with Captain Thys th’Allegro. Commander Warner also showed good diligence in protection of his commanding officer’s safety as well as mission parameters.

To be noted, prior to arrival during a senior staff meeting Commander’s Blake and Warner expressed creative problem solving ability, Mister Warner devising a Mimic system to counter Romulan Star Empire activity in way of protecting both the October and the away mission’s crew, though this proved unnecessary during operation.

Captain Tungsten and the USS Dragon have been operating as military and strategic liaison for the Tri’Vokil Task Force, Captain Tungsten’s dedication to the safeguarding of the Tri’Vokil system is to be commended to which this officer is personally grateful for the support of.

OOC Thank you @Garak234 as always, this report would be shared with the 11th Flotilla directly in regards to discoveries made that are prudent to potential future action.
