NARRATIVE
The planning meeting for this mission was held on Stardate 102083.6, Shift Gamma, in the Operations Conference area onboard Deep Space 13. The mission parameters were laid out and the assigned support ship was specified as the Nova class ship, the USS Asimov (NCC-72455). Mission Commander Major Valencia designated LCDR Wind-People to be the ship’s Commanding Officer for the transit to and from the area of interest, E.I. the location of the sensor array satellite in the Ba’Aja sector.
At 102083.7, the USS Asimov casted off and shortly after received clearance to transit to Sector Space. From there warp factor 6 was ordered and the ship arrived on station at 102084.1. Travel was uneventful.
On arrival LCDR Wind-People ordered passive scanning, but then added a Gravitic and Tachyon sweep as well (Note: given that this was the sector wherein the USS Ecstasea was ambushed by a ship that was presumed to be cloaked, this was a precautionary measure). Only a Federation flagged freighter was noted, but otherwise AO was clear.
The ship approached the station and attempted to connect and enable remote diagnostics with sensor station. Resulting error was a position desync between an antenna armature and the satellite control computer (SCC). It was decided that an EVA would be necessary, and given LCDR Wind-People, and MAJ Valencia had the most experience with free float EVAs, that that they would go. LT Solla was given con.
EVA began at 102084.2 and the away team reached the station shortly there after. LCDR Wind-People suggested using a technique that she had used when realigning phasor cannons know as “Shooting the Moon”, essentially manually aiming at a known target and then trying to set offsets in the targeting computer (in this case the SCC) to compensate. With MAJ Valencia as the target (given this was a passive antenna array, otherwise using a live target would not have been done) it was determined that an encoder for the armature was malfunctioning.
A new Telex 32-70 DL 6 pin High Resolution Encoder was dispatched to the team and installed. Manual aiming then proceeded as normal, offsets were entered into the SCC, and the station was able to be put back on line. Resynchronization and download of past data were performed as normal. Readings nominal.
At 102084.5, the away team finished EVA.
At 102084.6, the USS Asimov departed AO at Warp factor 6
At 102085.1, the USS Asimov arrived at DS-13.
RECOMMENDATION None noted.
RECOGNITION Major Valencia for working outside of MACO’s usual mission profiles to lead a Science and Engineering mission, proving once again the importance of not being siloed.
Captain Tohanna for her ‘pep talk’. As she stated, “You get thrown, you get back in the saddle.”
The rotation team for their professionalism, some of whom, like LCDR Wind-People had just survived the loss of a ship.
OOC Thank you @Sam for running this event. Thank you for forcing putting Ansha back in the chair.
