Lead by Captain Lazard, a team consisting of Captain Alex, Captain Konieczko, Commander Simek and LCJG Caelia went on a recon mission to Kepler 42-d. The mission was intended to determine whether or not the natives of the planet had had contact with other space traveling species or not.
The initial scans showed that the clouds contained, according to the database, unknown metal as well as the magnetite. This was the reason we could not conduct a scan of the planet from orbit.
Captain Lazard’s engineering team modified a probe that launched below the clouds to scan the planet. The probe discovered similar force fields to those found near the sea. These force fields were located beneath the ground in multiple cavern systems.
As our scans continued, we noticed a huge explosion in the desert and as we directed our attention to that area, it became clear that Kepler 42-d had been visited by a space faring species before us or had developed their own primitive warp technology. Up from the ground rose a structure, which looked to be a repurposed railgun. The structure had warp capability, however they have not yet developed the technology to pick up sound or image transmissions, using radar instead.
The ship was manned by the Spine Snakes, the ship containing fifty of their species.
An attempt by Captain Alex was made to convert shipboard x-ray equipment to contact the other ship, however we were not successful.
The information was relayed to Starfleet, who given the order to withdraw, and so we did.
