Captain Kumar,

I am pleased to report success in our assignment to assist the USS Raleigh with their survey of Planetary body designation 99105. Upon the Brookly's arrival, we took two shuttles to the planet's surface and rendezvoused with the base camps. Captain Washington was content to leave the Brooklyn in her XO's command and so was accompanied in the first shuttle by Lieutenant's Zehn & Coats whilst I led the second away team in the company of Commander Somek and Lietuanant Commander T'Rara.

Once we had established with our designated base camp, our away team was efficient in rendering assistance to the Raleigh's science teams though we did observe several... unusual behaviors not normally associated with the decorum of Starfleet officers. This to the point of some of our away team forming speculation as to the possibility of something on the planet affecting their mental capacity - perhaps even the very dampening field we were attempting to investigate (NB: even in the face of adversity those officers in my company maintained a high level of professionalism and did not allow themselves to react to some of the less amenable behavior).

Whilst planetside; one of the Raleigh's engineering teams made a significant discovery pertaining to the dampening field. Upon closer inspection we confirmed their conclusion that they had found the source of the field, at least in the region of the planet in which we were surveying. This source was an artificial construct of an unfamiliar construction that stood proud of the surrounding landscape. The Raleigh engineering crew had been moderately successful in their attempts to interface with the technology however they appeared hesitant to commit to their findings. We worked to verify their results and reached the same conclusions before proceeding with a deactivation attempt. Since the dampening field was affecting communications I was unable to consult with Captain Washington as the away team CO, and so took the decision myself to deactivate this device in the hope that our success would also reopen communication channels.

Our diligence paid off and thanks to the efforts of all involved, I was able to deactivate the device with no ill effects. However there was an unexpected result; one of the Raleigh's lead scientists discovered a chamber which he promptly summoned us to. Upon our arrival with the Doctor, we discovered this chamber housed what would appear to a holographic interface of some description - the representation of which appeared as an unfamiliar race.

Further interaction with the interface revealed that it was a form of repository identifying itself as a Impluvium. It is one of few remaining across the planet's surface which are the final testimony of the race once inhabiting this world some estimated 200,000 years ago. The Impluvium identified it's originator's race as 'Dexxians' (sorry if I got that wrong, it was nearly 2AM at this point for me) - a rapidly evolved warp capable society, however despite being initially open to sharing it's information it was either unwilling or unable to reveal any finer details, making reference on multiple attempts to something it referred to simply as 'the Key'.

The Impluvium did disclose the information of said 'Key' as a planet known only by it's given name by it's originators as 'Karion' (again, sorry if wrong!). It is this officers opinion that further study of this ancient race is warranted and that the Raleigh's survey of this galactic region be used as a baseline to identify possible locations of this additional planet.
