MISSION Final Readiness Test of USS Midway and Crew.

OUTCOME Drill successful. All hands show readiness for duty.

KEY PERSONNEL

  • CAPT Lunya Vel
  • LCDR Matthew Flynn
  • LT Lalaa Drush

NARRATIVE On above Stardate, USS Midway performed final combat readiness drill to test crew (namely Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Flynn and Lieutenant Drush). Ship was taken into empty space at edge of DS 13’s operational space and holographic targets deployed to simulate ambush attack by three (3) Voth warships. Drill simulated launch of entire compliment (24) of Valkyrie fighters to engage targets. During the drill, simulated failure of impulse engines, weapons, sensors and warp engines implemented. Crew overcame failures and restored systems, allowing for a tactical withdraw from superior force.

RECOMMENDATIONAt this time, Captain recommends that USS Midway is clear for combat deployment in all aspects.

RECOGNITION Notable performances by both LCDR Flynn and LT Drush. Both will be valued additions to Midway crew.

ADDENDUM This was the Lieutenant Commander’s first posting aboard a Starfleet vessel as well as the USS Midway’s chief engineer. As such, the scenario simulated was initially unfamiliar to him but an enlightening experience nonetheless. Lieutenant Drush assisted in acquiring transporter locks on the Valkyrie fighters’ pilots in the event of a imminent loss of craft. Observed system failures from main engineering. Diverted USS Midway’s deuterium feeds to auxiliary systems and impulse drive, restoring basic functionality along with short range sensors until warp drive was reinitialized. Weapons and full sensor systems were restored roughly simultaneously with the warp core’s restart. Prior familiarity with starship systems did play a role in handling system failures and restarting systems.

RECOMMENDATION Recommended to Captain Vel having the deuterium feed automatically sent to auxiliary for restart in the event of a catastrophic systems failure like the one experienced during the scenario.

RECOGNITION Lieutenant Drush’s ability to coordinate with transporter teams was commendable.

Addendum This was the Lieutenant’s first major activity aboard the USS Midway. She was assigned the task of maintaining contact and coordinating the Valkyrie fighters and coordinating with transporter teams to maintain locks on the pilots. During the exercise, a major system failure took out sensors temporarily. After engineering brought short range sensors back online, was able to continue actively monitoring the status of the Valkyries, though contact coordinating fighter screening was maintained throughout the sensor outage.

RECOMMENDATION Valkyrie fighters should transmit their status actively as well using internal sensors should the USS Midway’s sensors be compromised. This will allow better coordination even during a system failure. Backup power systems for critical systems would also be nice in case of failures in combat scenarios.

RECOGNITION Lieutenant Commander Flynn’s quick response got sensors back online and allowed continued completion of fighter coordination duties.
