LOCATION: System 9865-Theta.

MISSION: Survey planets in the system.

OUTCOME: Survey interrupted by large arachnid-type aliens.

KEY PERSONNEL:
CMDR A. Samaras
CMDR J. T'nar
LT T'Lal
ENS R. Mitsuki

SCDR E. t'Cyklaas

NARRATIVE: This officer led a small survey party to the sixth planet in the system to begin a survey. Initial scans indicated no sapient life forms present, which was validated by LT T'Lal's scans on the surface. The team's scans revealed that the planet was once inhabited by what seemed to be a neolithic civilisation, which seemed to go extinct around five hundred years ago by what we guess was a volcanic eruption.

As the team were surveying the planet, we were interrupted by the arrival of dozens of large alien arachnids. At first, these arachnids ignored the away team, moving to the various stone monuments in the area and began to dig, as if looking for something. It is to be noted that when the arachnids arrived, this officer found what was a small amber statuette next to one of these stone monuments. The team tried to make their way back to the shuttle without alerting the arachnids to our presence, but this failed and the team was beset by the aliens. Whilst this officer, CMDR T'Nar and SCDR t'Cyklaas created a diversion, LT T'Lal and ENS Mitsuki ran towards the shuttle, taking off and beaming the other three members of the away team onboard. As we rendezvous with the U.S.S. Endeavour, several large cocoon-like ships were spotted in orbit around the planet. They did not seem hostile to either the shuttle or the ship. Ship sensors themselves could not detect these ships until the moment they jumped to warp, and even through visual means, they were difficult to identify.

All members of the away team returned to the U.S.S. Endeavour unharmed.

RECOMMENDATION: These arachnid aliens have never been seen before. They seem incapable of establishing communications; LT T'Lal's attempt at a mind-meld did nothing to pacify the aliens. Samples of webbing taken from the arachnids are currently being investigated on the U.S.S. Endeavour. This could potentially help us to understand why their ships did not appear on our sensors.

This officer would like to file a commendation for all members of the away team, who performed admirably and with professionalism prior to, and during, the engagement with the arachnids.
