NARRATIVE Blackjack Squadron held the Sienae System under siege for nearly six days, turning away a number of Cargo vessels and capturing those that refused to turn back. As the deadline for the invasion neared, more ships such as the Dragon, Mariner, and Defender joined our lines, on the final day the Commander, one Commander N’Vek hailed ahead of the planned time for the last surrender demand, to agree to speak terms. Agreeing to meet at a diplomatic vessel in between our lines and their own, on the condition we arrived with a single shuttlecraft.

After a brief debriefing on the situation so far, myself, Captains Mirazuni, Akaela, Tolar, and Tungsten boarded a type 14 shuttlecraft to meet with a diplomatic vessel with the Commander N’vek. The Diplomatic vessel turned out to be none other then his warbird, the IRW Khazara, a Valdore class.

We beamed onboard the Khazara to find that the Commander had prepared the main mess hall for a formal dinner party set with live music, the Commander himself was delayed at the time we had believed to be a negotiation tactic, but later learned he was prevented by agents of the Tal’Shiar warning him not to accept any compromise.

Upon his arrival in the hall, the discussion begun civlized, however it grew swiftly apparent that the Commander was unable to put forward any acceptable compromise, using Captain Mirazuni’s telepathic ability to read the Commander, we were able to estimate that one of his aides was a member of the Tal’shiar. In an attempt to cut through the charade and get an actual accord, the agent was exposed, however unknown to us there was a second agent hidden as one of his guards. The second agent fired upon N’Vek and killed him as the two Tal’shiar agents were taken care of.

Commander N’vek’s first officer upon seeing the Tal’shiar kill their commander gave the order to have all forces stand down, reveling to us that the Commander N’Vek had accepted our terms before the meeting until the Tal’shiar intervened. Infighting began to break out between Imperial Officers and Tal’shiar agents, forcing our party to depart.

Within an hour of our return, the fighting had ended among the Imperial forces and the remaining military forces laid down their arms after taking care of the Tal’shiar agents within their ranks. Starfleet is now moving in to secure the system and prepare for POW transportation after the state funeral for Commander N’Vek.

RECOMMENDATION Commander N’Vek and his men were honorable during the entirety of the seige and the battle before, many would make excellent addition for the Romulan Republic and should be offered the chance to defect. The death of Commander N’Vek has greatly angered many of them.

RECOGNITION Captain Mirazuni’s telepathic skills allowed us to get to the root of the peace talks and find out the ruse being played by orders of the Tal’shiar as well as exposing the agents within the room.

Captains Akaela and Tungsten both did their duty admirably to try and prevent the Assassination of Commander N’Vek.

ADDENDUM During the briefing, a number of those present pointed out that the discussions could have been a ruse to capture or kill a number of visiting captains. Precautionary measures were discussed. These measures, whilst prudent, troubled this officer greatly. Ideas such as having ships stealthily deployed within the blockade area, or having countermeasures to damage the diplomatic ship seemed to fly in the face of Federation values. I pointed out that if there was a suspected threat on negotiations, it was better not to meet the Romulan Commander on their terms and instead, offer to meet on our own terms. Our position was vastly superior and victory to be ours, if not at that particular moment, then hours later.

We do not need to stoop to Imperial levels or underhanded tactics, tactics which, in the words of Lieutenant Commander Sital, were “sensible”. When Captain Nimitz gave a chance to voice thoughts for the record, I stated that even if we were not planning to use any concealed devices, just knowing that we had them to use and fall back on changed our demeanour both consciously and unconsciously. Despite this, it was decided that we would bring concealed devices, and I voiced my disagreement with such a matter.

RECOGNITION I echo the recognitions made by Captain Nimitz. Captains Akaela and Tungsten performed well in the negotiations. Whilst not entirely perfect, as Captains seemed to almost talk over one another and lead Commander N’vek down different conversational pathways, both aimed to push forward an agreement that was satisfactory to both sides.

Captain Nimitz also deserves recognition for his leadership throughout the operation. His wisdom from the initial failed assault no doubt saved many lives, to his leadership through the blockade, and finally, the decisiveness during negotiations meant the best possible outcome was achieved, all things considered. It is this officer’s opinion that Captain Nimitz be recognised suitably for his command of this operation.
