NARRATIVE With the Attar completing a series of surveys in nearby systems, Capt. Timoreev took the chance offered by proximity to join a U.S.S. Endeavour led by Lt. Reyes for an exploration mission on the surface of Thiavis III.
The mission main goal was to study local flora and fauna and to gather as many data as possible before the return of the U.S.S. Endeavour, who had proceeded with collecting data outside of the system.
The away team splintered in different sections, each with a specific purpose. Capt. Timoreev joined Lt. Reyes in studying a nearby herd of Silutors, an herbivore species native to the planet, that was in the middle of a process of migration per Lt. Reyes’ hypothesis.
During their study, however, the two officers stumbled into a Silutor that was killed in an unusual way, not compatible with an attack by any known predator on the planet, according to Lt. Reyes. Deciding to investigate further, the two officers found out that a group of poachers had set a camp on the surface, killing Silutors in order to collect their crests. The position of the camp exactly on the predicted migration pact of the herd gave further credibility to the hypothesis.
Upon a preliminary inspection of the camp from afar it has been decided to intervene in order to stop the illegal activity of the poachers. However, the officers soon found it impossible for them to call on the rest of the away teams, since the poachers were monitoring all communications on the surface. Left alone, with no diplomatic option available and clearly outnumbered, the officers opted for using the herd itself to create a diversion in order to get a window for assuming control of the camp’s control tower.
While the idea of attracting the herd by simulating a Silutor’s sound for help was successful, the collateral effect was that the herd destroyed most of the camp and its equipment. However, the diversion proved to be effective enough for the two officers to overcome the poachers and to call for reinforcements.
As a consequence, the poachers have been detained and have been transferred on board the U.S.S. Endeavour.
