NARRATIVE While exploring previously unexplored space in the Ba’aja Sector, the USS Roosevelt encountered a subspace wake as indicated by the Roosevelt’s sensors. Lieutenant Delix conducted a subspace scan focused on the wake and discovered a vessel traveling through subspace, which he identified as using solar sails to propel itself through space. The vessel did not match any known configuration in databases, nor was a warp signature observed. Raising the possiblity the ship belonged to a pre-warp civilization, the vessel was not contacted nor was any recognition by them made towards Roosevelt. As we decided to investigate further however, Lieutenant Delix isolated the vessel’s subspace trail and traced it back to a L Class world in System M-6132.
The Roosevelt followed the trail there and detected a massive subspace signature on the planet. Lieutenant Delix conducted another scan and found evidence of a active carbon-based humanoid civilization on the surface, but otherwise appeared invisible to normal visual means. Considering the Prime Directive, the crew determined that first contact was not viable for the time being due to the absence of warp based technologies. The Roosevelt was believed not to have been detected during its investigation.
It should be noted that the Class L world is considered unremarkable and typical of worlds of its class, although is habitable for the subspace civilization to exist. It appears to contain a temperate climate along with evidence of mountains and jungles. No remarkable natural resources were found.
RECOMMENDATION The civilization found on the planet should be monitored for future developments for eventual first contact procedures, unless otherwise indicated. For first contact as well as beyond, developing a method in which to maintain regular contact with said civilization despite their existence in subspace is suggested.
RECOGNITION Ensign Bradley’s helm expertise likely kept the Roosevelt from being discovered, keeping us at a safe distance during the investigation.
