LOCATION: Vento System, Aldebaran Sector.

MISSION: Rescue Cynallian worms from planet to enable breeding and save animal from extinction.

OUTCOME: Worms rescued, smugglers encountered trying to poach worms, possible connection to the TSTT.

KEY PERSONNEL:
LCDR Josie Read
LT Miriam Reyes
ENS Erin Green

NARRATIVE: After weeks of study and research, Commander Molly Faraday, the Chief Science Officer on board the U.S.S. Endeavour, and I managed to track down a possible location for the last surviving members of the Cynallian Worm, a critically endangered species whose eggs are often poached for their rare delicacy. The U.S.S. Endeavour previously rescued a batch of three eggs, although, from this, only one egg hatched successfully.

The three officers above were tasked in verifying the existence of the worms on the planet, and to bring them to the U.S.S. Endeavour so that we could begin a careful breeding program to ensure the survival of the species. Upon arrival into the system, we found a small four-person shuttle in orbit, with only one passenger. The shuttle bore a faded TSTT emblem. The shuttle did not detect our vessel arriving. Scanning the planet, we saw that there was only one location where the worms were, and the remaining three people from the TSTT shuttle were heading towards it. Lieutenant Commander Read and I beamed down to the planet and raced towards the location of the worms. We managed to arrive first and caught the worms, though we were quickly detected by the three people on the planet.

We quickly returned to our vessel and began to depart, with the enemy shuttle in pursuit. Though the enemy shuttle did not fire on our vessel, they did try to take the worms, at first by negotiation, and when that failed, they tried to beam the worms off the vessel, which we quickly countered by raising our shields. Upon reaching the edge of the system, the enemy shuttle fell back, having failed to beam the worms over and lacking firepower to disable our vessel. We departed the system to rendezvous with the U.S.S. Bark, which had been deployed to protect us following our comms with the U.S.S. Endeavour. The shuttle did not pursue us further.

RECOMMENDATION: This officer recommends that we proceed quickly with the breeding program to safeguard the worms, before transferring them to a safe Federation facility where they can be cared for properly.

This officer would also recommend that we look into the presence of the enemy vessel; no doubt they were there to sell the worms on a black market, and an investigation into this could reveal other endangered animals being traded illegally.

OOC: The AAR for a small event for the Endeavour crew that was run! There are no logs for this event.
