NARRATIVE Under orders from Captain H, Sh’ow we proceeded to the Bajor system under warp, this trip was uneventful and after a few hours in orbit the Captain ordered us to proceed to the nearby Minos Korva Sector to conduct some training drills and target practice, whilst we waited for the signal to collect, CMDR, Sh’ow S, their cubs and the Kala parents.

This was at first uneventful until an hour into training drills, when sensors picked up an odd power signature. We moved to investigate and found a heavily damaged Borg cube hidden inside a nebula. The cube seemed to be attempting to repair itself, and at first did not show any hostile action towards us.

However, when we attempted a further scan of the vessel to find out its weapon conditions, the cube came to life and fired on the Defender, and thanks to conditions in the nebula, as well as seemingly knowing our shield frequency, it was able to quickly take the shields offline and beam over a number of drone boarding parties. Unlike previous Borg attacks, the teams on this one seemed to be focused on gaining both information and supplies to help with their repairs. To that end, a number of ballistic weapons were handed out to officers, and defence efforts were focused around Sickbay, Engineering, the bridge and the main armoury on board.

During this defence effort, the Captain held the bridge with the help of officers up there, whilst I had gone to help in the defence of the main armoury, and Commander Kas had gone to Sickbay and Commander Nightingale to secure Engineering. Despite the loss of around a hundred crewmen, due to assimilation and injuries, I had believed at first that the ship was secured without too much loss of life, and we were able to destroy the hostile cube, it wasn’t until I was called to sickbay following the finishing off of Borg boarding parties near the main armoury, that I was fully briefed on what else had been going on, around the ship, as main internal communications had been knocked offline, meaning we had to rely on the Ferasan-Caitian Hybrid officers and other telepathic officers on board to pass messages.

Once arriving at sickbay, I found LCDR Nightingale had been injured and was being treated for a number of broken bones due to a borg striking him, as well as several other security officers, I also found out much to a panicked Doctor Sh’ow that during the defence of the Bridge, H’Ltol had been caught unaware by a borg drone, whilst trying to protect another officer, and suffered major internal injury, and despite attempts to revive him, he remained in a coma like state, we also ruled out the chance that the Captain may have been injected with borg nano-probes during treatment.

After repairing our damage and getting a full debrief, I ordered the Defender to proceed at maximum warp to Cait, were I oversaw the transfer of Captain Sh’ow to the care of specialist doctors on Cait, who are positive they will be able to better handle his care, and given the logistics involved with the Captain being cared for, by ship board doctors or Medical staff on DS-13 I felt this was the safest opinion for the Captain’s long term recovery, this was backed by Doctor Sh’ow, who due to the inability to contact the Captain’s next of kin CMDR Sh’ow as well as his own mother, Professor Sh’ow, took the decision best suited.

After this transfer was complete, we returned to Bajor and have remained in orbit since, to ensure we are available to transport the Sh’ow and Kala family as needed.

RECOMMENDATION With the cube destroyed, no other borg signatures in the area, and Captain Sh’ow currently getting treatment in a specialist ward on Cait, I have little to recommend, other than that the Defender be given some small downtime of a few days to process the loses with have suffered, as well as the injuries to our Captain.

The Defender, however, stands ready to be of any use to the fleet, with myself as acting Commanding officer until Captain Sh’ow is well enough to return.

RECOGNITION I can only sing the praises of the crew as I always do; had they not responded the way they did to the hostile threat, I fear the loss of life and injuries would have been much worse.

I also have to mention the bravery and dedication of Captain Sh’ow, who, in this instance, put fellow crew above himself, doing his duty as Captain, even when placed at great risk, and given his recent news and his family, no one would have blamed him for being unable to take such a risk.

OOC H’Ltol is currently in Ward 10 of the hospital in Cait, and will be away for a few months, enabling me to take a small break from the Character, as well as to give some advance to family/slice of life drama. If anyone wants to visit him, it can be arranged, but he will hardly be a great conversationalist given his state.
