As some of you may have heard, earlier this evening Vice Admiral Ashkeph deserted her post in order to illegally deliver millions of translator devices to the irreo population of Echomet Prime. This was not a defiant action taken in the moment, but rather the culmination of an extended plot to violate the Prime Directive. In truth, the entire plan to return the rescued irreo children to Echomet originated with Admiral Ashkeph, as a means to facilitate her crime and to distract those of us in a position to stop her.
I know that many of you may sympathize with Admiral Ashkeph's actions, but we do not yet know what the effect of this violation will be, for the irreo, for Echomet Prime, or for the sector. Regardless of the outcome, it was not our place to meddle in the development of another world. In this time of uncertainty, we must remember that self-determination and noninterference are among the founding principles of the Federation. Today, we failed to uphold those principles.
However, our mistakes do not define us. I implore all of you to join me in reflection. Together, we will learn from this misstep, to become better officers, better citizens, and better sentients.
