Argo Chess Club? OOC

So it seems LordShadow023 has beat me to this already with the IC notice, but I think it'll be good for some OOC planning to be placed into this also. Anyway, I've been playing chess with some fleet members IC here and there, and to just name a few: Nimitz, Wilson, Brecken and Quint. How we've done this, to add to the realism, is actually play a game of chess against one another online.

Some websites we use, listing from best IMO to worst:

https://lichess.org/
Lichess is a good site all round, except for its not that fancy. You can spectate games and there is also a handy chatbox while playing the game. One issue that has been present that I've noticed, you can't really win. Most games I've played ended in stalemate with the enemy having only a single king, running amok while you have several other pieces left. Still, its a good site since it always works and it provides the option to spectate.

This is just an overall way fancier chessboard, and it looks pretty :) I think you can spectate, but I'll need to do further investigating on this.

http://multiplayerchess.com/
This is alright, just a simple chessboard that works all the time, and you can't spectate.

Here's an "ultimate" chess guide.

As indicated in the OOC note appended to my IC message I strongly recommend Chess.com, which is free, and has mobile apps with push notifications, etc. It also allows creating tournaments, groups, clubs, and so on. There are multiple modes, spectator options, loads of themes, and everything except the premium 'tutoring' content is free. You can play unlimited games, have unlimited games open, and so on. (And the tutoring content is also free, but free users are limited to so many videos per day and so on). You don't need anything to sign up except for an e-mail address.

My friends and I who play OTB and FIDE-ranked games pretty much exclusively use Chess.com for our online play. Many GMs and IMs use it as well, including Jeremy Silman, Yasser Seirawan, Anna Rudolf, Ian Nepomniachtchi, &c. It also has very aggressive cheat-detection in its ranked play, which is important, obviously, in unmonitored internet games.
Until now the only online chess-game I used was https://lichess.org/. I found it more immediate and easy to use to other platforms, but I never played in tournament or group, so, if you say that Chess.com is better for organized plays, I trust you u.u
My advice is to head over the website or download the Chess.com app on your phone/tablet/PADD/RomulanDisplayScreen and try it out. As it is free and virtually nothing is needed to create an account, you can try it out and decide whether you like it or not. Although I will say that as far as iOS is concerned, it's easily the best thing going in terms of features and engine. (I've reviewed just about every single major chess app on that platform over the past ten years or so!)

You can take a look at the past games I've played, for example, and even have the computer analyse them. You can do the same with your own games. It's a good tool if you are serious about improving your play. Etc etc. Anyway, if you mess around with it you'll find that there are all sorts of things it does. It's astonishingly full-featured for something which is freely provided, which is the major reason that I try to support them. Here's a link to my profile and you can go from there, if curious.
