LOCATION Orion Syndicate Station

MISSION Uncover the reason behind Orion Syndicate interest in Lalaa Drush, now Lieutenant Operations Officer aboard the USS Midway.

OUTCOME An away team posed as mercenaries who had recaptured LT Drush to sell back to the Orion Durnan to learn more about his interest in her. However, during negotiations the Orion became hostile and the Midway came out of warp and Durnan died in the ensuing conflict. Syndicate goal was to obtain LT Drush and gain access to her mind and experiences for the purposes of learning the operations of a frontline Starfleet combat vessel.

NARRATIVE The away team posed as mercenaries and unwilling captive. The initial infiltration went smoothly, with the team finding themselves before the Orion Syndicate leader of the station, Durnan to negotiate the sale of LT Drush (myself). However, during negotiations LT Drush went over the top in acting out fear, leading Durnan to anger about damage to his ‘pet’. CMDR Akaela pretended to have a gel explosive planted on LT Drush, a claim that made Durnan even more enraged. During the ensuing conversation, Durnan ordered his guards to take the females (LT CMDR zh’Vhenda and CMDR Akaela) and kill the male (LT CMDR Flynn), though no one fired yet as the team made offers, counter offers, and comments. During this time, LT CMDR zh’Vhenda signaled the Midway. The Midway exited warp as shields on the station were raised and the Midway began its attack. During the attack, a light fixture fell and impaled Durnan and two guards, with the rest of his guards being killed by the team. Three slaves were rescued from this room as well.

Further investigation involving LT Drush and LT CMDR zh’Vhenda into logs recorded by Durnan revealed the reason the Syndicate had pursued LT Drush. LT Drush before being freed to Starfleet space was being prepared to become a net girl so that various clients could experience the sensual Orion slave girl. However, her subsequent freedom squashed those plans. Only after she joined Starfleet and was assigned to the USS Midway did interest in her return. Durnan, her original owner, had ambitions to climb the ranks of the Syndicate, and to do so he needed an advantage over others in the Syndicate. He decided to pursue LT Drush to obtain her and implant the Net girl implant to obtain the operating practice of Starfleet frontline combat vessels. This plan would, in theory, allow him to more effectively evade and combat Starfleet operations and thus enrich himself and his standing in the Syndicate. The black market surgeon for this plan was sent a message about this but had not arrived at the station yet and remains in Syndicate space. It is unclear at this time whether others in the syndicate beyond the surgeon know and/or would be interested in pursuing LT Drush.

RECOMMENDATION No action necessary at this time.

RECOGNITION

  • LT CMDR Flynn ensured the craft used during infiltration was properly prepared to support life. His fixes to the life support system ensured the mission did not end in the vacuum of space.
  • CMDR Akaela and LT CMDR zh’Vhenda both improvised during the escalation of the situation to buy time as LT CMDR zh’Vhenda signaled for support from the Midway

ADDENDUM Per my orders, LCDR zh’Vhenda installed a tricobalt device within the shuttle used to board the Syndicate station. That device was to be used as an escape plan, should the away team need to make an emergency retreat.

LCDR zh’Vhenda was equipped with a subspace distress signal, that would alert Midway of the away team’s need for extraction. This turned out to be the case, and the device was detonated.

Any issues arising from use of such a device should be directed to me.

ADDENDUM During preparations for the mission and examining the shuttle, I discovered the tricobalt device aboard, and unaware of its purpose, discussed the matter with Lieutenant Commander zh’Vhenda. She explained the intention behind it, and noted that Captain Vel had approved the measure, as well as that its absence from the briefing was for security purposes, to keep the station’s crew in the dark as much as possible. Understanding the situation, I agreed to abide the need for secrecy as long as the task went to plan. While its use was successful, LCDR zh’Vhenda observed that its yield seemed unnecessarily high, gutting the station’s hangar.

Also, note that with the USS Midway’s arrival, the away team including the rescued slaves were beamed back to the ship from the station.

RECOMMENDATION I request that for future missions using devices, potentially those considered to be dangerous, that the Chief Engineer be made aware to account for possible eventualities and unusual occurrences. In the case of such a explosive device, the yield should be properly adjusted to minimize risk but maximize effectiveness depending on the scenario, with assistance from the Chief Engineer as well.
