Axanar Updates

Finally some news. This was shared by Alec himself so I know it's not another blog with some amateur's-half baked opinion. Instead it's a "news" article with a "professional journalist's" half-baked opinion. (Actually I'm kidding. I just couldn't resist the chance to take a dig out at internet journalism)>
Neroed post, but new (relevent) update. Axanar is going to trial by jury.
Time to pack the jury with SW fans! :rotfl: Really though, do that Axanar people really think they have a shot? Seems to me they should have settled long ago.

From the accompanying text from Alec Peters when he shared that article, he seems to think they'll be hit with a "non-willful infringement" at worst, or so he's implying to me. Of course that could just be him trying to damage control.

I screen shotted the post. See what you guys think:

I find it laughable that they (Peters and Co) think Axanar had any chance - they were doomed from the start of the suit. And the documents released revealing that they spent all of the donor funds on pretty much everything but the movie? Yikes.

I'm afraid we'll never see any Axanar movie on our PCs....

Well as Dex reported above, it's over. Axanar and CBS have reached a settlement.

We were wondering what changes were going to be made to the movie, well we don't have to wonder long. "Official" statement from the Axanar page has more to say on it:
Here's the "official" statement from Axanar Productions regarding today's settlement announcement:
Mike Bawden wrote:
AXANAR PRODUCTIONS STATEMENT REGARDING COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT

Valencia, CA - Friday, January 20 - Axanar Productions is pleased to announce that we have reached a formal resolution to the lawsuit brought against Alec Peters, and the fan film production, AXANAR, by CBS Studios, Inc. and Paramount Pictures Corporation.

Since the beginning of the lawsuit, over a year ago, we have expressed our desire to address the concerns of the studios, and our willingness to make necessary changes, as long as we could reasonably meet our commitments to AXANAR’S over 14,000 donors, fans and supporters. We are now able to do exactly that.

Terms of the settlement agreement include an agreement to allow Axanar Productions to continue showing PRELUDE TO AXANAR commercial-free on YouTube and to allow Axanar Productions to produce the AXANAR feature film as two fifteen-minute segments that can be distributed on YouTube (also without ads).

Additional terms of the agreement will be made available to cast, crew and donors through private correspondence.

For the next sixty days, Axanar Productions will be working through some final legal requirements requiring immediate attention. In addition, there are several pre-production issues that need to be re-visited before we can begin principal photography on our project.

Axanar Productions was created by lifelong Star Trek fans to celebrate their love for Star Trek. Alec Peters and the Axanar team look forward to continuing to share the Axanar story and are happy to work within the Guidelines for Fan Films for future projects.

Throughout this process, we will continue communicating with our fans and backers to ensure they are informed and involved until we reach completion of the production.

Donors will be receiving an email with some "donor exclusive" information shortly.

Thanks again for your support this past year.

Live Long and Prosper.

- Mike

I guess this is it. Axanar's dead pretty much: https://www.reddit.com/r/startrek/comments/647d0j/axanar_studio_fundraiser_fails_moving_out_of

And if anyone wants to follow a complete and concise of the downfall, this is a great read: http://www.bjornmunson.com/tag/crisis-of-infinite-star-treks/

This is all terribly sad.
Well, I guess we are all left with those beautiful starship designs, at least....
Wow. I should have paid more attention to the Industry Studios stuff, but I sorta started to tune Peters out when all his lawsuit updates were as meaningful and informative as warm vanilla pudding(No I don't know what I'm getting at, go away). Really glad I didn't donate to it now.

I assumed that Industry Studios was so they could still do their "dream" of an independent movie studio because they couldn't under the terms of the settlement or whatever. I didn't know the life of the project was at risk with its failure.

I thought Prelude to Axanar was pretty cool, I remember when that kickstarter came out, if I could have, I might have kicked in a few bucks to have Prelude to Axanar on Blu-Ray.

but as it stands, yeah I realize that Axanar is pretty much not going anywhere, most of the stars backed out, like Tony Todd.

Same timeframe, different stories.

The Discovery looks worst then the Axanar.

Indeed....for what I can see, I cannot like the Discovery. She's so.....ugly! The Shenzou is far better (although a bit too "futuristic" for a ship of the period but....well, it's still better).
