BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS

Keexa was born in the Rakantha Province, on Bajor, very shortly after the end of the Dominion War. Her childhood was largely split between education, in a Federation-run school, and, once old enough, working on the land to help the reclamation process. Her parents, Bahieh Nulan and Bahieh Alia, were displaced during the Occupation, and lived in a refugee camp in the Mizar sector. They returned to Bajor shortly after the end of the Occupation, with associate degrees in agriculture.
When Keexa was twelve, her parents were invited to a conference on Earth, on land reclamation and soil replenishment. They took their daughter with them, travelling on a scheduled trip to Earth, which was intercepted on route by a small squadron of Orion pirates. The pirates were intercepted shortly afterwards by a Starfleet cruiser, the USS Columbia, which quickly forced them to retreat. This gave her a new degree of appreciation for Starfleet. The conference was successful, and her father was offered a post at an agricultural college on Earth. Keexa was slightly put out by the unexpected change of home, but managed to cope, and was quickly fascinated by the variety of different species in her new school.

Inevitably, she ended up part of several student movements by the age of 15, one of which was slightly disruptive, and consisted largely of Bajorans, and the children of refugees. It wasn’t long before she was part of a large group picketing the Cardassian Union embassy on Earth. After a few days, she was, to her surprise, approached as she left by a Cardassian. The boy was about her own age and offered to help her carry her sign. Her response wasn’t particularly polite, but she was surprised when he persisted. To her surprise, the trip quickly found its way to a coffee shop, where he explained his story. His family had been forced to flee Cardassian Space after the Obsidian Order attempted to arrest Legate Ghemor and found themselves too closely aligned with his ‘faction’. They’d fled to the Federation, and ultimately settled on Earth, where his father, an architect, found work designing buildings.

Several more meetings encouraged the young Bajoran in a series of unfamiliar thoughts; maybe Cardassians weren’t always the enemy. Maybe they actually were… well… people. It wasn’t long before, to her shock, she found herself standing among the counter-protestors, alongside Cardassians. Several news broadcast crews made a beeline for her, but were headed off by an older Cardassian, and only allowed to approach after she’d agreed to be filmed and interviewed. She answered a few basic questions and was surprised by the reaction. Particularly by how positive it was, even what minimal news from Bajor travelled as far as Earth. To her surprise, she was shielded from the media by several of her new friends. She quickly managed to disappear back into obscurity, much to her relief.

Her friendship with Saro, as she’d learnt her unusual friend was called, quickly became strong. Over the next three years, it migrated, slowly, to a more intimate relationship, and they began dating in earnest when they were seventeen. From the age of sixteen, both of them had been studying to enter Starfleet Academy, having different, but equally valid reasons to want to give something back; Keexa’s family had been saved by a Starfleet vessel on their way to Earth, and Saro’s had been assisted after making it to Federation territory and allowed to deadhead on a light cruiser to get to Earth.

Both were accepted into Starfleet Academy, as members of the Class of ’97. After receiving their acceptances, Keexa was surprised when Saro presented her with a Betrothal bracelet, replacing the pledge bracelet she’d already been wearing. Their time in Starfleet Academy saw them maintain a steady top ten percent placement in their classes, with both of them following the Command Track. Their relationship also survived the ups and downs, giving them a stable anchor.

After graduation, they were assigned to different starships for their cadet cruise and spent most of the next four years communicating via subspace, before managing to wrangle postings on the same starship after promotion to Lieutenant.

Keexa rose fairly steadily through the ranks over the next sixteen years, achieving the rank of Captain three years into the Klingon War, after her CO was seriously injured, leaving her, as the XO, ranked Commander, of an Ambassador class starship, as the highest-ranking officer on the bridge. Saro, by this point her husband, was the tactical officer. They successfully drove off a raiding group of five Klingon birds of prey and a single Vor’cha class cruiser from a small Federation colony. Afterwards, Bahieh was promoted, alongside Saro, who went from Lt. Commander to full Commander, and placed in command of the USS Makara, an Excelsior-class starship. Over the next two years, the ship was decorated several times for bravery under fire, including a cutting-out mission where a transport full of Federation citizens was seized shortly before it was due to be sold to the Orion Syndicate.

Ultimately, the Markara was crippled in an action shortly before the end of the conflict, while shielding a refugee convoy from a raiding force, holding them off long enough that the entire convoy escaped. The Makara managed to make it back to a deep space station, but, because of her age and extremely significant damage, was deemed unrepairable.

Keexa spent the next three months on the beach, while a board of enquiry was held into the loss of her ship. It concluded that there was no blame on the part of the commanding officer, and she was assigned command of a ship that had recently finished construction, the USS Invictus, an Odyssey Class cruiser. During the next few years, she managed to find ten months that could be devoted to less rigorous duties, and had two children, Acen and Jocin, who are now six and seven respectively, having been born in 2412 and 2413.
