Captain's Log- USS Midway

The screen turns on, a scene of Lunya sitting back in her desk chair in her quarters. She is rubbing the bridge of her nose with her eyes closed

Begin Captain’s Log, Stardate 99576.6.

She pauses, but continues after a moment, as her eyes open and she looks towards the viewer

Where to begin? It’s been a while since I’ve kept up with a log, with the retirement of the old Midway, the finishing of construction on the new, our shakedown, and everything. But perhaps, I will start with our new transfers…

Matthew Flynn…I like him. He seems driven, smart, and really does know the insides and outs of this ship. Hell, he helped me get her hanger modifications approved and started, and we’ve even begun discussing a possible upgrade to our torpedo launchers. Our trip to Risa seemed to bring him out of his shell a bit, and I heaaaaar he even got to participate in some…well, lets just say he enjoyed Risa! I look forward to what he can do with this ship, and I think she’s in good hands with him down in engineering. Hopefully he proves me right!

She smirked slightly

Then, there’s our new sensors Lieutenant, Lalaa Drush. I really don’t know what to expect of her. She’s the first Orion I have had command over, and I can’t remember the last I served with. To say she’s been peculiar, is a bit of an understatement. She did well in our tactical drill, but then practically vanished on Risa, and when we got back ship side she was completely sleep deprived. One has to wonder what she got up to. Actually no scratch that, I’m not going to wonder what an Orion woman got up to while on Risa. But I had to have Doctor T’Lera come to my ready room where the Lieutenant was, and have her brought to sickbay to make sure she would get some sleep! I’ve been told she was sedated and hopefully that will solve that problem. I need to keep an eye on her. I have hopes for her, but trust? I just don’t know.

She pauses a moment, looking at something on her desk that she moves aside

Then there’s Kora zh’Vhenda. Our new security chief. She transferred to us just as we were about to leave Risa, and her interview was…unique. She’s definitely assertive, I’d say near arrogant in what she showed me in the interview, but sometimes that’s needed in a position that really can’t back down from confrontation. Though the report of her having punched her first commanding officer, is mildly concerning. She did help with the Lalaa situation last night, but I heard she had to be told NOT to stun the woman by the doc. Yeah, we’ll work on that…

She sits up a bit, leaning in

I’m not thrilled with this convoy assignment that we’re enroute to. The last minute changes, the typical lack of information from Starfleet Intelligence, and this sensor ghost that Malta is tracking. A lot is not adding up here, and I’m hoping that this is just a bunch of coincidences, but one should not always believe in those right?

She stands up, pushing the chair in, dressed in a t-shirt and what looked like runners pants

For now, I’m headed to the holodeck to work off some of this stress. Sometimes just being able to run, and not think about all of this, tends to help. Right?

She smiled

Next Captain’s log will be after the convoy escort is complete.

The screen turns on, Lunya, in uniform, is leaned in on her elbows on her desk. She takes a minute and begins speaking

Begin Log Entry Stardate 99585.8.

She inhales and pauses, then speaks

The convoy escort was almost a disaster. Four Romulan ships attempted to ambush us while enroute to Starbase 718. Due to some brilliant scanner work from the crew of the Reyga, and Lieutenant Drush, we knew that there was somebody shadowing the Malta.

She pauses again, exhales, and continues once more

This was an absolute screw up by Starfleet Intelligence. We were clearly a convoy of convenience for them, and crew aboard the Virin lost their lives because of it! I had requested, multiple times, to know what was on that prisoner transport, and why it could possibly be being shadowed, but I got nothing but a run around and double speak from them. And to get that from a Lieutenant Commander in Intelligence to boot! Guess rank doesn’t mean a damn thing to them!

Lunya clenches her jaw, but then leans back in her chair, her arms resting on the arms of the chair

We’ve docked with DS 13 to transfer the prisoners to them, but I damn well will make sure I am present for any questioning! Even if we didn’t get much from them on the way to the station, I’m going to find out why they attacked this convoy and put my people, and many others in harm’s way!

While we are docked, I will be taking the runabout Devraux to tend to some matters at home on Earth for a few days. Will be nice to see my mother again. Commander Iba will be in command in my absence.

She reaches in towards the viewer

The screen turns on, as Lunya is standing behind her desk, facing away from the viewer and towards the window, watching as two Valkyries fly by. She turns around and sits down, adjusting the viewer slightly

Begin log entry, Stardate 99609.5.

A short pause

Well, that posting did not take long to fill, and I am glad it didn’t. Commander Iba served the ship well for a fair amount of time. I do wish her well in wherever her career takes her next.

As for our new XO, Commander Akaela, I am eager to see how she performs. She interviewed very well and I was impressed with her responses to my questions. Time will tell if she is as sharp as she seems, but I do hope that she is.

Lunya leans back in the chair

The trip home was…intriguing. Beyond the fact that my mother is doing well, I was able to take in some Old Earth styles of music, and brought back a new holodeck program that very faithfully recreates Old Earth automobile racing, or so I’m told. I have yet to try it.

We have left Deep Space 13 to begin our patrol of the nearby sectors. I do have hope that things remain calm for the time being, and that we can continue to get our feet wet so to speak.

I do plan to reach out to the Romulan Commander, Commander Nathes, in regards to the prisoners we took in the convoy ambush. I have not been able to speak to them since turning them over to Starfleet Intelligence, and I find it highly concerning that I trust a Romulan Commander, who I only barely know, more than my own intelligence service. I guess we will find out if my trust is warranted, and if my misgivings are correct.

The screen turns on, showing Lunya leaned back in the chair at her desk. The window behind her shows that the Midway is at warp

Begin log entry, Stardate 99678.2

She reaches towards the viewer, the sound of key inputs can be heard

They say variety is the spice of life, but you know, I am enjoying the mundane. We’ve been on patrol since the encounter with the sentient energy being, and things have settled into a nice routine. The ship is operating efficiently, the crew are at ease, and I’m honestly fine with this!

She smiles a little

Who would have thought, the fighter pilot in me, is actually enjoying some peace and quiet for once! I know a few people would think I’m getting soft, but you know what, I call it maturity!

I do have some updates though!

She takes a small breath, tapping a finger on the desk twice

So it would seem the hangar upgrades are proceeding faster than expected. Mister Flynn has been working diligently on them, and after the installation of the micro tractor beams and catapults, the system is ready for testing. I hope to do this soon, in an unoccupied region of space, so that we can iron out any issues before we actually need to use them in possible combat. Still, very proud of engineering and all of their hard work.

She adjusts how she was sitting and continues

I’ve been holding several cooking sessions with the command staff of the ship. I find that the time together, hopefully helps bring everyone together, in something a bit more relaxed than phaser fire and explosions. She chuckled So far, everyone seems to at least be liking the food, not so much about the prep, as Commander Akaela has pointed out several times. But still, the time together is nice, especially when a ship of our size isn’t really known to have the room to bring families aboard.

She rested a hand on the desk

Hopefully this routine continues, though knowing our luck, that’s highly doubtful.

Will update this log when hanger testing is complete.
