Folks, we have recently had a large influx of personnel into the fleet which is great. However, I think it has led to an issue where players are using multiple methods in chat to mark dialogue and actions. Argo has never had an official policy on this, because we have never had to. So, I will just point out how Argo has always done it.
Dialogue is simply stated in local chat. No quotes necessary.
Actions use the emote channel which can be accessed by putting /me or /em in front of the text.
If there is a mix, /emote chat can be used with the text then placed in quotation marks.
Again, not an official policy, but this has been part of the general Argo culture since I joined the fleet. If you have questions, please ask a mod or admin for assistance.
Thanks.

I do this generally, though I also throw in mid-dialogue actions. For example, an action alone will be via emote, and an action preceding dialogue will be like OMP described with the mix. Sometimes though I insert actions mid dialogue without emotes since I wanted the dialogue to take precedent in that instance. In this case I do my dialogue in regular local without quotes as normal, and toss in an *action* as such. I have gotten used to going back and forth between this and emotes as for me these two variations give a slightly different result in how I read them. I do realize however not everyone may read it the same way, but no one has ever questioned me on it at least, heh.
Just my input there.

/em walks into the room.
/say "Hello."
/em walks into the room, "Hello."
[Local] "Hello," he says as he walks into the room.
[Local] "This is some dialog here that I am speaking." This is an action that I am doing. "This is some more speech that I am speaking."
As you can see, there is no situation in which asterisks are required to denote actions. This way, the chat is 'cleaner' and reads more like prose.
This is just a statement on what is, and always has been, the preferred method within Argo.
