Following on from the success of the devastatingly popular Constitution class of cruisers, the Gemini class of cruisers were intended to form the backbone of the militarized sections of Federation borders. A comparable phaser armament with room to upgrade and a reduced crew compliment compared to the Constitution's; The Gemini class was intended to be smaller, faster, and more efficient than her contemporaries.

Despite her similarity to the Bonaventure class cruisers a; quadruple array of warp nacells was intended to produce a more stable warp field allowing for higher speeds in emergencies as well as providing some redundancy to potential battle damage.

A narrower profile and cross-section reduced weak points in the hull and more contiguous armor-plating around the fore-ward hull and engineering sections as well as an improved structural-integrity-field projection system.

Despite these advantages, the Gemini class was not favored by crews as the enhancements came at the cost of crew comfort and space for supplies. These elegant attack cruisers lacked the facilities to sustain lengthy exploration or contact missions; Something the Constitution class excelled at.

It is perhaps no surprise that elements of the Gemini design and lessons learned from their deployment would be incorporated into the later Constellation class cruisers.

Format blatantly pinched format from other records. Many thanks to Coby and Katriel for additional assistance and inspiration. Plaque source template made by FuryofaSeraph: bit.ly/qxr8RA. Pictures of the Gemini class credits to this reddit here.
