Hostile Takeover, part 3

The battle between the Sheliak fleet and KDF forces reaches a critical stage…

Shift Time: Sunday, March 7, Alpha -1

Audience: KDF and allies

Event Type: Structured (combat RP)

Starting Point: Starship bridge

(Event GM: @anncarise)

Record of Battle

B’Atar@anncarise | LAST TIME ON ZENAS PRIVATEERS

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: Tanik and her carrier have joined the supporting forces

[Local] B’Atar@anncarise: <C- Sadia> All right. We will move under cloak and wait in the Mal’laan asteroid field for the Sheliak to engage orbital defenses. Once they are committed, we will strike from the flank at the centre.

B’Atar@anncarise | | The frigates scatter, with the exception of six guarding the presumed flagship in the centre, but what seems to be a straight shot at the flagship is quickly evident to Sadia as a trap, -

B’Atar@anncarise - with several heavy cruisers from the front and a few light ones from the side having turned around by now, ready to pounce inwards and quickly crush anyone foolish enough to charge the flagship

B’Atar@anncarise <C - Sadia> All ships, fall back! We’ll provide covering fire!

B’Atar@anncarise | B’Atar: “Wait, something’s happening. Are they…blind firing torpedoes at us?”

B’Atar@anncarise | Aestae Vali: “Must be those Hunter-Seeker drones the Tabadi mentioned…”

B’Atar@anncarise | The tactical readings show the Sheliak cruisers and heavy cruisers firing into the asteroid field and the readings show devices with the explosive charge of a powerful quantum -

B’Atar@anncarise - torpedo, but its system seem far more complex than any standard torpedo weapon.

B’Atar@anncarise | Sadia: "Okay, so this is the plan. We send these primed asteroids first, let them shoot them or try to slow them down with tractor beams. Once that happens we detonate the asteroids and send -

B’Atar@anncarise - in the next wave. This time, Daramar and whoever else volunteers will be hiding behind non-primed asteroid and use the confusion due to all the heavy metal pollution and try to breach their -

B’Atar@anncarise - formation like the last time. If this succeeds, support ships move in to score as much hits as they can, and we fall back to regroup deeper in the field.

B’Atar@anncarise | AND NOW THE CONCLUSION…

B’Atar@anncarise | The fleet awaits with the asteroids ready while the Sheliak fleet continues to sit outside the field, powering their tachyon detection grid.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> All right! Send in the first wave of booby-trapped asteroids, target their heavy cruiser line.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Daramar uses its tractor beams at full power to speed up the asteroids towards the enemy lines, coordinating the effort with other ships.

B’Atar@anncarise | As expected, the Sheliak fleet begins opening fire on the asteroids first and manage to take one of them out. It explodes, sending chunks of rocks in all directions, and the Sheliak quickly -

[Local] B’Atar@anncarise: - realize that the asteroids are mined. They activate tractor beams on ones that get too close, trying to push them safely away from the fleet as they keep up their fire to shoot the rocks down.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> They are trying to tractor them! Detonate charges on the captured asteroids!

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Roll Sadia.

[Emotes] Sadia@gulremal: rolls 75 (1-100)

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: Nice.

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: I was hoping for a high roll here! Makes sense heh.

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: sssssh! don’t jinx us too early :)

B’Atar@anncarise | The asteroids detonate before the Sheliak have a chance to repel them. The explosions alone damage one heavy cruiser and two light ones, crippling one entirely. The asteroid fragments are -

B’Atar@anncarise - blasted across the fleet, causing havoc and damaging a few ships, but more importantly the metals in the asteroids obscure the Sheliak’s sensors as planned.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Good work! Launch the second wave! Helm, move us behind the designated not-primed asteroid. All volunteers, form on Daramar, and prepare to move in!

[Local] B’Atar@anncarise: <C> Aye Captain!

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Daramar moves behind a large asteroid and activates the tractor beams in “holding” mode as the rest of the team forms on its flanks.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> As all volunteers are in position, support ships start launching second wave of booby-trapped asteroids, and Daramar moves forward, pushing the asteroid in front at a distance.

B’Atar@anncarise | Like before, the Sheliak begin firing on the asteroids. Several detonate around them, but their asteroid along with several others manage to make it up to the Sheliak squadron, albeit with -

[Local] B’Atar@anncarise: - chunks blown off by the incoming fire. Soon, one of the Sheliak heavy cruisers lock a tractor beam on the Daramar’s asteroid, intending to pull it back and seemingly unaware of the ships behind it.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Use Daramar as cover! This asteroid might not hold for long. Tactical, the moment our “shield” starts losing integrity, push it as much as you can in front of us!

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: she watches are they manage to reach the enemy line without asteroid crumbling Detonate remaining asteroids! Gunners, fire along the central line of our asteroid, split it in half and tractor it -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - at enemy sides, main guns and torpedoes, full frontal fire! Everyone else follow in!

B’Atar@anncarise | The remaining asteroids are detonated and the frontal line of the Sheliak fleet visibly begins to falter. Daramar splits their asteroid and emerges from it to face the heavy cruiser that was -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> As enemy tries to tractor the asteroid, Daramar’s guns fire to split it in half and tractor beams try to push it to sides, allowing rest of the ships to fly inside the enemy formation…

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Oh my bad! heh.

B’Atar@anncarise - on the other side…

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: sorry, usually trying to shout commands and then describe the attempt

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: No worries!

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Daramar fires all forward weapons at the heavy cruiser in front, heavy cannons and dual beams banks light up, rapid fire torpedo tubes launching high-yield photons.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Today is a good day for our enemies to die!

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: lel

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Wow

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: there goes the reroll

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Haha yeah

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: You can’t possibly get any lower than that

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: so a reroll is worth it!

[Emotes] Sadia@gulremal: rolls 86 (1-100)

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: That’s more like it!

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: had to move that bad roll outta way :)

B’Atar@anncarise | Daramar’s all-out assault pummels the Sheliak ship, and even the heavy cruiser cannot withstand the attack, its shields crumbling and systems going down. Multiple hull breaches erupt across -

B’Atar@anncarise - the vessel, and though it doesn’t explode entirely, it’s completely helpless to stop the rest of the ships from going past it and deeper into the formation…

B’Atar@anncarise - EGZO’S TURN –

B’Atar@anncarise | Further in the formation, a number of frigates await between them and the central heavy cruiser that is the suspected flagship…

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Alternate universe in which Sadia went with the first roll:

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: https://youtu.be/XSqCJ-UGYns?t=266

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: back up! back up! :)

Egzo@HF_Mudd | <FX> Hag’lhr emerges from the cloud of asteroid shrapnel, spitting fire at the Sheliak ships.

[Emotes] Egzo@HF_Mudd: rolls 2 (1-100)

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: yyyyyyeah.

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Wow

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: What is with the first roll?

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: I Sense A Trend.

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: heh.

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Now Aestae has to roll 3…

[Emotes] Egzo@HF_Mudd: rolls 23 (1-100)

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: still more blind-firing, but w/e

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Better than a 2!

B’Atar@anncarise | The frigates begin going evasive at seeing the emerging ships. Hag’lhr manages to hit a few but with the large movements of the many frigates in the area, Egzo is unable to focus on one and -

[Local] B’Atar@anncarise: - take it down as they keep darting behind one another.

B’Atar@anncarise - AESTAE VALI’S TURN –

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Let’s see if Aestae can break the curse…

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: ugh! now you’re calling it a curse! :)

Aestae Vali@crystyll | Morakos joins the frey at the same time, trying to impede the scattering ships with a small gravity well at their centre which it throws a volley torpedoes into.

[Emotes] Aestae Vali@crystyll: rolls 84 (1-100)

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: You rolled a 1 an Egzo rolled a 2 right after for-

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: ooooh she broke it!

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Yay!

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: aaaah, grav well + torp spread, the classic!

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Literally the combo I use on every ship haha

B’Atar@anncarise | The gravity well manages to stop the scattering ships, some of them forced into an orbit around it while three frigates are pulled into the centre. The volley of torpedoes strips the shields -

B’Atar@anncarise - of all three and destroys one, the explosion catching the second which also goes down. The third is also caught in the chain reaction, though it manages to avoid complete destruction, the -

B’Atar@anncarise - shockwave knocking it out of the centre of the gravity well and it begins to circle around it adrift.

B’Atar@anncarise - B’ATAR’S TURN -

B’Atar@anncarise | San’leth and squadron darts in, trying to take advantage of the gravity well to pick off the other frigates orbiting around it.

[Emotes] B’Atar@anncarise: rolls 42 (1-100)

B’Atar@anncarise | The frigates are tougher than expected, or maybe shifting power to shields as they knew they were unable to break free of the gravity well. The squadron manages to take one out and deal some -

B’Atar@anncarise - damage to the others around the grav well.

[Emotes] B’Atar@anncarise: rolls 30 (1-100)

B’Atar@anncarise | Other frigates have realized what is happening and moves into the area to assist, but don’t manage to deal more than glancing blows. The surviving frigates by the grav well finally manage to -

B’Atar@anncarise - break out and they try to counterattack, turning to engage the Morakos. Meanwhile, the two light cruisers in the formation beside the disabled heavy try to close in, engaging Daramar from both sides.

B’Atar@anncarise - ROUND TWO -

B’Atar@anncarise - SADIA’S TURN -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Support ships, move in. Coordinate attacks, try to cause as much destruction as possible!

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Tactical, tractor beam that enemy hulk into port cruiser! Gunners, focus on starboard cruiser! Helm, move us in position to fire on the enemy flagship. Engineering, reinforce our forward SIFs, we might have to licks her lips ram someone.

[Emotes] Sadia@gulremal: rolls 83 (1-100)

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: gah, moment, lemme make FX

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: hehe no worries!

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Tractors beams that were pushing asteroid parts moments before refocus on the heavy cruiser’s hulk, trying to push it in the way of one of the incoming light cruisers. All guns with a firing arc -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - shoot at the second cruiser, while helm keeps forward momentum and uses thrusters to position the ship into best possible firing line at the enemy flagship.

B’Atar@anncarise | The heavy cruiser slams across the light one, batting it out of the way with sheer force, smashing down its shields and causing heavy damage. The fire keeps the second light cruiser at bay, -

B’Atar@anncarise - its shields quickly crumbling under the Daramar’s fire and forcing it to back off, allowing Daramar to get a good line at the flagship, though there are still a few frigates between them.

B’Atar@anncarise - EGZO’S TURN -

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Daramar still rammed…just not with its own hull heh.

Egzo@HF_Mudd realizes they’re not going to get far plinking at a formation this size, so gives the order to form up with some of the other raiders and focus fire, like the boss said.

[Emotes] Egzo@HF_Mudd: rolls 93 (1-100)

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: oooh yay good rolls!

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: The tide turns, finally.

B’Atar@anncarise | Forming up with the other raiders, Hag’lhr manages to deal good damage on the frigates. The group takes out three of the ones in the area and damaging some more.

B’Atar@anncarise | - AESTAE VALI’S TURN -

Aestae Vali@crystyll | Morakos continues to press it’s attack, targeting the weakest remnants of the opening attack for a swift reduction in enemy numbers

[Emotes] Aestae Vali@crystyll: rolls 44 (1-100

B’Atar@anncarise | Morakos manages to finish off one of the frigates going for it and heavily damaging another, forcing it to break off from the fighting

B’Atar@anncarise - B’ATAR’S TURN -

B’Atar@anncarise | San’leth and co. continue working together to pick off frigates as well

[Emotes] B’Atar@anncarise: rolls 35 (1-100)

B’Atar@anncarise | They only manage to get one down this time as well, but they are still slowly whittling down the Sheliak…

[Emotes] B’Atar@anncarise: rolls 40 (1-100)

B’Atar@anncarise | The enemy frigates still don’t fare particularly well, as their design simply cannot keep up with the maneuvrability of the nimber KDF ships. Meanwhile, support ships close in on Sadia’s order…

[Emotes] B’Atar@anncarise: rolls 92 (1-100)

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: give them HEEEEEEEELL

B’Atar@anncarise | The Sheliak fleet, already weakened by the exploding asteroids and the breach created by the Daramar, begin to crumble once the support ships move in, with several more areas breaking and -

B’Atar@anncarise - allowing additional ships to slip into the centre of the formation and deal with the frigates.

B’Atar@anncarise - ROUND THREE -

B’Atar@anncarise - SADIA’S TURN -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Helm, move us closer to the flagship! Gunners, full forward fire, but mind the allies!

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Once Daramar’s prow is facing in the direction of the enemy flagship, helm pushes the ship from drifting into forward movement, slowly building up speed. Main forward weapons target next wave of

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - arriving frigates as the autocannon starts “spooling up” for the incoming attack on the flagship.

[Emotes] Sadia@gulremal: rolls 77 (1-100)

B’Atar@anncarise | Daramar fires on the next wave of frigates, managing to avoid friendly fire and take down two frigates, forcing the rest to scatter and be rather easy pickings.

B’Atar@anncarise - EGZO’S TURN -

Egzo@HF_Mudd | Hag’lhr continues picking off frigates of opportunity, flying escort for Daramar’s attack run on the flagship.

[Emotes] Egzo@HF_Mudd: rolls 79 (1-100)

B’Atar@anncarise | Hag’Ihr and the other raiders manage to pick off two more, scattering the rest of the next wave. The six frigates that have stayed near the flagship so far form up in front of it but don’t -

B’Atar@anncarise - immediately join the fighting. With most of the other frigates in the area scattered, they’re now all that remains between a straight shot to the flagship for the Daramar…

B’Atar@anncarise - AESTAE VALI’S TURN -

Aestae Vali@crystyll | Morakos turns it’s attention to the problem frigates and hits them with everything while flying right through the middle of their formation to force them to break up.

[Emotes] Aestae Vali@crystyll: rolls 98 (1-100)

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: woooooooo!

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Wow

B’Atar@anncarise | Morakos takes out two of the frigates in an impressive attack, damaging two more and forcing the rest to break up!

B’Atar@anncarise - B’ATAR’S TURN -

B’Atar@anncarise | San’leth and squadron focus on keeping the frigates busy, preventing them from regrouping and taking out any they can.

[Emotes] B’Atar@anncarise: rolls 93 (1-100)

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: daaaang.

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: This is like the exact opposite of how we started haha

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: and last session, also.

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: True!

B’Atar@anncarise | Two more frigates go down, and the raiders’ constant attacks keep them away from the flagship, giving Daramar a clean shot…

[Emotes] B’Atar@anncarise: rolls 41 (1-100)

B’Atar@anncarise | The support squadron continue fighting, not dealing significant damage but holding their ground.

B’Atar@anncarise - ROUND FOUR -

B’Atar@anncarise - SADIA’S TURN -

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: The Sheliak don’t get a counterattack because we hit them too hard hehe

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: The fleet effectively got stunned for the round

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> That’s it! We have an opening! Autocannon, fire! All forward weapons fire! Light that flagship up!

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: and here comes that 1.

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: (again)

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: hehe

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Daramar moves even closer as the autocannon fires a tightly-focused barrage of heavy disruptor bolts, followed by the rest of front weapons and torpedo tubes.

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: you really want me to bloody my knuckles with all this wood knocking or what?! :)

[Emotes] Sadia@gulremal: rolls 99 (1-100)

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: UP…YOURS :)

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: ^_^

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> FIRE EVERYTHIIIIIIIING!

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Wooow

B’Atar@anncarise | Weapons stream out from the Daramar, bolts and torpedoes flying along the clear path and impacting the flagship. Its shields flare up, barely providing any protection against the massive -

B’Atar@anncarise - barrage before they collapse, allowing the rest of the weapons to pummel the hull. By the time the attack is finished, the flagship barely holds together…

B’Atar@anncarise | Comm Officer: “Captain, we’re getting a hail from the Sheliak flagship!”

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> rises eyebrow Oh really? Let’s hear them.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Helm, slow us down, everyone else, stand ready to continue engagement on moment’s notice

B’Atar@anncarise | Tactical Officer: “The Sheliak have disengaged as well.”

B’Atar@anncarise | On Daramar’s viewscreen, the feed of a Sheliak on a heavily damaged bridge appears…

B’Atar@anncarise FX | https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/memoryalpha/images/1/18/Sheliak.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20161121022939&path-prefix=en

B’Atar@anncarise | Sheliak: “Klingon creatures. We concede this engagement.”

Egzo@HF_Mudd smirks but remains silent, letting the boss lady do the talking to her opposite number.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> I am captain Sadia Cynis, commander of KDF task force Hurq Mevik. I accept your surrender.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> You fought well, though I question the reasoning for this entire conflict. Klingons that breached your space were also our enemies.

B’Atar@anncarise | Sheliak: “Your internal affairs are beneath us. We are however willing to negotiate to clarify the terms for future transgressions. In return, you will allow for the safe withdrawal of all remaining vessels within this fleet.”

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Very well. We will keep claim of all the disabled ships, though, as is our custom. The High Council will be informed and Diplomatic Corps will send representatives to negotiate the future terms.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> These are our terms.

B’Atar@anncarise | Sheliak: "…you may keep the disabled vessels, but further matters of custom relating to salvage will be clarified by treaty. Where shall we proceed for the negotiations?

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> "Our diplomats can meet with your representatives on our Starbase 151. If you want more neutral ground, we will escort your representatives to Khitomer.

B’Atar@anncarise | Sheliak: “The starbase will suffice. We will remove ourselves from the system to perform repairs and proceed to the starbase in one week.”

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Very well.

B’Atar@anncarise FX | The comm promptly ends.

B’Atar@anncarise | Tactical Officer: “The Sheliak are evacuating the disabled vessels and leaving the battlefield.”

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Egzo, take a raider squadron and keep the eye on their movements.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> B’atar, coordinate salvage of the enemy ships. to Aestae Elt, I surmise you want to help with that, get some insight into their tech.

Aestae Vali@crystyll nods, “I have standing orders to continue salvage in all OSN interests”

[Local] B’Atar@anncarise: “Aye Captain, we’ll make sure we get everything useful from those ships.”

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: Good, I’m heading to starbase to prepare our diplomatic corps and inform the High Council. Considering the complications Feds went through, we might need additional experts.

Aestae Vali@crystyll chuckles, “Clear calendars too. Didn’t the Feds get drowned for months by those ‘simple’ negotiations?”

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: Support ships will return to the assigned temporary bases and by on stand-by just in case Sheliak try something funny. Though that doesn’t suit them, we must not let our guard down.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: “Yeah, that’s why I’m more than willing to let actual experts do it. I can negotiate as any other captain, but long term treaties are best left to actual diplomats.”

[Local] B’Atar@anncarise: “You did well with them here. Actual treaties with the Sheliak…that might be harder than fighting them from what I’ve heard.”

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: “They were in a bad position to negotiate, but even if we destroyed this fleet to the last ship, they might have gone full crazy and sent an even bigger force.”

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: Now, don’t think I’m not a one for a good scrape, but the reason behind this was just so…dumb.

[Local] Aestae Vali@crystyll: “Total annihilation of their fleet would have likely led to an even stronger retaliation, dragging the Empire and it’s allies into all out war. Even for a Klingon that’s not such a smart move when the KDF is spread so thin”

[Local] B’Atar@anncarise: “Aye, much fun as that’d be, wiping them out is probably a bad idea. This way we get a good fight, but one we can handle, and we can make sure the Sheliak don’t send an even bigger attack next time that we can’t.”

[Local] B’Atar@anncarise: “Maybe they’re itching for a fight too, which is why they sent this fleet. Been a while since the Sheliak’s gotten involved in any proper wars from what I know.”

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: That exactly I am trying to prevent here. Anyhow, this was a good fight, and after negotiations are done, we can also properly celebrate.

[Local] B’Atar@anncarise: “Maybe once we get back to base. If it’s true about the Feds being caught up in negotiations for months…might be a long time until then.”

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: to B’atar That’s a very plausible theory. This could have been just an excuse to test their new tech and tactics, learn and improve.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: Well, we definitely gave them stuff to think about. In any case, you got your orders, see you on the base in one week! Don’t be late!

B’Atar@anncarise smirks, “Aye Captain. I won’t miss a good party!”

B’Atar@anncarise - END SCENE -

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: this was a great event

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: Agreed!

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: I’m glad you liked!

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: I thought it would be interesting to switch up enemies from the usual!

[Team]Sadia@gulremal: we’ll have some diplomatic NPCs visiting and victory celebration next time

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Yay!

[Team]Egzo@HF_Mudd: and dives into lore are always cool. though I suspect this time, the Sheliak would be CGI rather than a hand puppet. ;)

[Team]B’Atar@anncarise: Hehe yeah
