Pursuant to previous orders, USS Reyga has conducted a thorough investigation of the situation on the derelict space station in the Kelt Region. In summary:
On the matter of the insectoids, we have concluded that they are likely non-sentient and that it may be permissible to relocate them to secure access to the station, provided certain precautions are taken. Our full recommendation is available in report. Supporting that recommendation, Reyga has identified a suitable habitat for relocation.
This led us to further study the Unknown Crystal Structure (UCS) that is present on the station and previously discovered on Malrion-6e. We intended to devise a method of working within the technology-nullifying field and to utilize the second UCS to facilitate the insects’ relocation. We were interrupted, however, by a surprising discovery: the UCS itself shows signs of intelligence that may be indicative of life. Confirmation of this will require additional study to establish communication and translation. I have left a team on Malrion-6e, though their efforts would benefit from additional data points from the UCS on the derelict station as well.
At this point, I’ll require command guidance on how to proceed. Though the insects could potentially be removed safely, we did also demonstrate that it is possible to coexist peacefully with them on the station, so it may be possible to access the station’s databanks without provoking them. As for the UCS, given our findings, attempting to remove it or counteract its effects is inadvisable. On the contrary, if we can establish communication with them, that may yield information equally valuable or more valuable than the information on the station’s computers.
