Berylia@gulremal: <FX> KDF squadron escorts the alarian cruiser Sotaro to the main alarian force without incident. They arrive at the single planet in the ZE-3918 system.

Berylia@gulremal: <FX> They were greeted by a three dozen alarian ships on picket duty, with another dozen in high orbit of the icy planet.

Berylia@gulremal: <FX> Soon, ship captains are cleared to meet with Marshall Berylia at the base on the planet's surface...

Berylia@gulremal: <FX> Base itself consists of half a dozen spire like structures forming a circular, caste like formation, connected with force-fields and defended by large turret placements.

Berylia@gulremal: <FX> KDF folks are beamed to a large meeting room, and they can observe a group of alarians leaving the room through the main doors.

Kayd@anncarise examines the leaving alarians.

Berylia@gulremal: <FX> Alone around the holoprojector, aside from half-a-dozen guards around the room, stands Berylia, as she startes at the map of some kind of city-like location...

Berylia@gulremal: *she turns towards the newcomers* Ah, some new faces. Commander Yarasi spoke highly of your actions against the Breen.

Lexi@crystyll: "It was a good battle"

Berylia@gulremal: Yarasi is an old friend of mine, and you have my gratitude. What brings you here? I thought the Empire was staying out of this conflict?

Lexi@crystyll: "We were scouting the region to ascertain the status on the Breen front when we encountered your vessel engaging the Breen"

Kayd@anncarise chuckles, "And Klingons never shy away from a fight."

Lexi@crystyll: "Damn straight!" she nods firmly

Kayd@anncarise: "The Empire's official stance didn't stop this Task Force from going against those Hur'q, either."

Berylia@gulremal: Well, I will definitely not discourage you in that regard. This situation might turn really ugly really fast.

Lexi@crystyll eyes the holomap, "What's the situation here?"

Berylia@gulremal: As long as we are stuck at this damn ball of ice, we can't move forward.

Lexi@crystyll: "Got a plan to get moving forward then?"

Berylia@gulremal: *moves back to the map of the city* I'm exploring possible options.

Lexi@crystyll goes for a closer look too

Kayd@anncarise examines the map. "This the place we want to take?"

Lexi@crystyll: "Well, I don't know outright what the boss's plans are for us here. But as long as we're here now, we may as well take a look and see if we can help you work things out"

Berylia@gulremal: Breen have bunkered themselves at the mining base not far from here, in the mountain range and protected by a powerful shield generator.

Lexi@crystyll: "A defensible position..."

Berylia@gulremal: Our ground forces can't breach in - yet. We could blow it up from the orbit, but that entire area is rich with tekasite - if that thing was ignited it would probably rip the planet to pieces, -

Berylia@gulremal: - and the shockwave would most likely cost us most of the fleet.

Lexi@crystyll mumbles, "Well that's one way to get off the iceball..."

Berylia@gulremal: Breen are using some kind of newly imported robots to do the mining, and some of the defense duties as well.

Lexi@crystyll: "So a heavy hand won't work, least not without equally heavy losses. What about cracking those defenses with a small team to undermine from within first?"

Kayd@anncarise nods to Lexi, "If we can sabotage those robots that should make it a lot easier."

Kayd@anncarise: "Better if we can reprogram them to fight for our side."

Berylia@gulremal: *nods* Both machines and breen are practically immune to the powers of our Psions, and we are trying to find some kind of cave entrance, but no luck so far.

Lexi@crystyll grins, "Dirty tactics. I approve"

Berylia@gulremal: *to Kayd* Their multi-phasic shielding makes it almost impossible to get any kind of signal inside.

Lexi@crystyll: "But if we can get the right people inside..."

Berylia@gulremal: Problem with getting around through hidden entrance is twofold.

Lexi@crystyll: "What's the tectonic stability like around that region? I know a lot of old mining areas tend to suffer ground quakes and the like"

Kayd@anncarise: "If there's a way in, our Ghost Operatives can slip inside."

Berylia@gulremal: One - that shield most likely extends below ground, at least partially. And second, tekasite is all around so digging our way in could be extremely troublesome.

Berylia@gulremal: That things is very volatile, even in the natural form. Refined tekasite combined with anti-matter is the most destructive explosive known - at least to us.

Berylia@gulremal: Unfortunately there's no known indigenous people on the planet that could have an insight into the area.

Kayd@anncarise: "What about infiltration?"

Lexi@crystyll: "Well... if you can't find a secluded entrance; make one"

Kayd@anncarise: "We haul out of here, make the Breen think we've given up, but leave behind a little antimatter gift for them."

Kayd@anncarise: "Don't actually arm the bomb, but hide a small squad somewhere nearby."

Kayd@anncarise: "Breen are going to detect the antimatter and think we left to blow the planet to bits."

Kayd@anncarise: "They send a team to disarm the bomb, our operatives take them out and go back in their suits."

Kayd@anncarise: "It's risky, our operatives won't have much support, but I suppose the KDF ships with cloak can still remain around for extraction if needed."

Berylia@gulremal: Hmm, that is definitely a risky proposition.

Kayd@anncarise nods, "Not my go-to plan, but it's one way to get inside..."

Berylia@gulremal: But entire situation bothers me. I am putting most of my fleet at tremendous risk by keeping them so close to this place. Why are Breen not acting?

Kayd@anncarise: "Maybe they're waiting for reinforcements."

Kayd@anncarise: "If they wanted to go out in a blaze of glory and take you with them, they'd have done it already."

Berylia@gulremal: Thot Blek could just press the remote and wipe us all out. Yet my Farseers detect no direct danger.

Lexi@crystyll: "It would seem that they want the contents of this mine more than they want you"

Berylia@gulremal: I mean, sure, it's quite an operation they've got here.

Berylia@gulremal: But tekasite is not so rare, no way this is the only mine they have.

Berylia@gulremal: There's more to this.

Lexi@crystyll: "Something else within the mine that we are not yet aware of?"

Kayd@anncarise: "All the more reason they'll come out to investigate if we leave a bomb for them, then."

Lexi@crystyll: "They will also know we are acting, in some form or another"

Lexi@crystyll hrms, "Do you have any mapping of the underground cave system you can overlay on this image?"

Berylia@gulremal: Okay, so let's say we get a team inside. What's the next move?

Kayd@anncarise: "Preferably turn their robots against them and see if we can get any intel from inside."

Kayd@anncarise: "Some kind of map will be very helpful for that kind of op for sure."

Berylia@gulremal: *she closes her eyes and map zooms out and puts an mountain overlay and map of the cave system.

Lexi@crystyll studies the image before taking her blade and using the tip to point to a remote section

Berylia@gulremal: As you can see, all caves end almost half a mile away from the base - most of them were either caved in or filled with concrete.

Lexi@crystyll: "Small seismic charges on the surface here could collapse the structure if placed accurately. It would look like a natural collapse of instability"

Lexi@crystyll: "It would be a bit of a trek inside, granted. But possible"

Lexi@crystyll: "I would take an insertion team in here. Use Kayd's idea of incapacitating the investigating Breen to travel incognito in their suits from there"

Berylia@gulremal: We must make sure not to activate tekasite deposits *map overlays some 3d blotches of yellow around the mine*

Lexi@crystyll: "Once inside; the team can hack the local network to see what's going on in there, as well as repurpose the robots to create a distraction"

Berylia@gulremal: Fortunetely, they mined most of it close to the mine, so we could pull off some "instabilities" without causing a catastrophe.

Kayd@anncarise nods, "Sounds like a plan, then."

Berylia@gulremal: I need to discuss this with my officers, it will take some time to find the most suitable location to pull this off.

Lexi@crystyll: "If we have the insertion team turn the robots against the Breen /and/ drop the forcefield, you should have a fair chance at driving them out and taking the facility from them intact"

Berylia@gulremal: *nods* However, we must ensure breen don't decide to blow up the place themselves.

Lexi@crystyll: "Indeed. Timing is everything in this"

Kayd@anncarise: "We stay undercover as long as we can, and we disable everything we can manage."

Lexi@crystyll: "We need to get our intel first. Then let them see a supposedly fruitless assault forming on the front door that they can confidently defend against"

Lexi@crystyll: "Then; as they form up their defense, drop the forcefields and turn the defending robots against them"

Lexi@crystyll: "By the time they realise what's happening, they'll be on the backfoot and out of complex"

Berylia@gulremal: I need more information before we head inside. Aside from the geological scan and the visual imaging of the base surface, we have no idea what exactly is hiding inside.

Kayd@anncarise: "We'll have to pull back first to make them buy the fact that we're really trying to blow them up. Though I guess we could always come back for another assault once the bomb's been 'disarmed.'"

Berylia@gulremal: *mutters* If other clans weren't dragging their feet, we'd have this sorted out weeks ago.

Berylia@gulremal: Anyway, I will need your assistance on another matter before we pull this off.

Lexi@crystyll: "Oh?"

Kayd@anncarise looks to Berylia curiously.

Berylia@gulremal: *sighs* Before I got stuck here, I sent a sizeable portion of my Psion force, along with my head advisor, commander Lyra, on a mission deeper into the Breen space.

Berylia@gulremal: She was convinced that the Breen were hiding something in the nebula 2 LY away, and that it could spell doom for our Crusade.

Lexi@crystyll: "So you need us to extract them?"

Berylia@gulremal: *map shifts into local space map* I need someone with ships that can evade detection to fugure out what happened to her.

Lexi@crystyll: "Sounds like something we can handle"

Berylia@gulremal: While our Psions can hide our presence to the enemy, it's limited and extremely taxing. I assumed that was the reason they weren't able to contact us in the first place, but it's been almost a month -

Berylia@gulremal: - since they entered the nebula. *map zooms in, showing the ZE-3918 system in the lower left corner, and focusing on a larger nebula to the NE.

Kayd@anncarise: "If they're still alive, we'll get them back. Sounds like your head advisor will be handy to have for the planetside situation here."

Berylia@gulremal: Yes, if we have enough Psions, we can breach their shields and get a sense of the situation inside.

Berylia@gulremal: Hell, if more clans were around, we could force those shields down by raw mind power. But no use bitching about that.

Kayd@anncarise: "More intel's always useful for any op."

Lexi@crystyll nods

Berylia@gulremal: Lyra went there with a single ship, a heavy destroyer that's specially outfitted to make use of larger contingent of Psions, and outfitted with best stealth capabilities we can muster.

Berylia@gulremal: Unless that nebula can block psychic signals, we would "feel" if they all were snuffed in a ship combat.

Berylia@gulremal: So, something else is going on.

Lexi@crystyll: "We'll find you some answers"

Berylia@gulremal: I will provide you with the projected course they used to enter the nebula, but aside from that, we have no star charts of the place. There's one breen outpost rimwards of the nebula, but we haven't

Berylia@gulremal: - detected any alariming breen movements in that area - most of the Breen forces retreated corewards and are regrouping at the Breen colony of Wyrr.

Berylia@gulremal: Also, no breen ships were detected entering or leaving the nebula - at least from the side closer to us.

Kayd@anncarise: "Does that outpost usually have ships posted to it?"

Berylia@gulremal: Unfortunately, that's all the info I have at the time. I can offer you whatever munitions and fuel we can spare. *nods* Standard is two patrols - usually one cruiser and four frigates. They did add -

Berylia@gulremal: - another patrol since the Crusade started, but we haven't detected any massing of forces - for now.

Kayd@anncarise nods, "Kayeri Vaj is outfitted to serve scout functions when she needs to, so we should be able to navigate around that nebula and find your ship."

Kayd@anncarise: "If we run into Breen, well, just another potential source of intel for us."

Berylia@gulremal: I...ask much of you. I don't need to remind you that you should fall back if situation proves untenable.

Kayd@anncarise chuckles, "I don't think Klingons are much for falling back. But we'll try not to get killed."

Berylia@gulremal: That would be for the best. I wish you skill and wisdom to see this mission through.
