The away team.
Standard cataloging processes were under way- and a few not so standard processes were implemented by Captain McCarthy and his crew. A number of plants were documented, including at least one fruit-producing shrub.

Understated fruit bearing shrub.
Fauna was scarce in the chosen location- only one insect and one bird species were observed.
The insect was a psuedo-flying specimen that radiated ultraviolet bio-luminescence in varying sequence patterns- their natural habitat appeared to be large-number colonization within the cracks and crannies of the prevalent rock formations in the area.
The bird species was psuedo-aggressive- or at least, it was willing to enter conflict over limited resources. Initially, it simply stole a fruit pit from the above indicated fruit bearing shrub, which Captain McCarthy had been planning on preserving. After an exchange of vocalizations which neither seemed to comprehend, the bird descended on McCarthy- who had been brandishing another piece of fruit- and assaulted his face. Once McCarthy abandoned the fruit, the bird veered off the attack, claimed said fruit, and retreated a safe distance. Shortly after, a number of smaller specimens were observed with the first, the fruit being distributed among them. It is assumed that McCarthy had been attacked by an adult, and that the smaller specimens were its offspring. It made no more aggressive moves following that incident.

((The above bird is a stand in. Leaving the actual bird description to McCarthy.))
Results of soil scans and mineral samples are attached.
