WELCOME HOME, DEEP SPACE 13
Civilians are once again filtering through the reconstructed station.
DEEP SPACE 13, ALDEBARAN SECTOR, Stardate 95185.9 - After months of effort, Deep Space 13 is finally reopening to its former civilian population. Increased security and the influx of people returning to the station have slowed the reintroduction process, but the situation is progressing smoothly. The new security measures mean greater safety for station residents, but upcoming events like the Science Fair and Variety Show herald a return to normalcy.
Deep Space 13 is pleased to announce that it has returned to normal operational functions, permitting customary civilian traffic once more. Last year’s attack involving the Confederacy of Azed left the station uninhabitable, and only recently have the officers serving themselves been permitted to obtain residence once more.
Now that civilians are working and residing on the station, the influx of people means a considerable amount of necessary documentation to process for each person before they can come aboard. The station personnel are working at maximum efficiency to process incoming civilians as quickly as possible, but it is still a situation where delays are expected. This slower process is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.
However, priority will be given to expeditious processing for civilians whose primary residence was aboard Deep Space 13 prior to the attack. Command wishes it to be known that prior residents need not be concerned that they will be forgotten in the press of applications and, as such, their existing claims will be given precedence.
Facing such an inundation of people, the safety of starbase inhabitants is of the utmost concern to Starbase Command. To that effect, a group of intelligence and security officers, known as the Special Security Detachment, has been created to target and investigate potential threats to the station’s populace. This small team is investigative in nature, and its assigned officers are always willing to listen to concerns that any person on the starbase might have. Their purpose is to aid in maintaining the highest level of security possible on the starbase without infringing on the personal freedoms of those residing on it.
On a lighter note: the Variety Show and the Science Fair have both been reinstated. The Science Fair will have young students’ displays around the promenade proudly exhibited, and will be accompanied by a half-day of school (and a half-duty day for parents of children). The Variety Show will be organized by Counseling and has already been submitted to event scheduling, so look for details soon!
In the words of Captain Caspius: “Those returning to Deep Space 13 can expect to find a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere, where personal growth is encouraged, and where there are many opportunities of every sort withal.”
Welcome home, to Deep Space 13.
