PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Counseling Routine Exam

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be emotionally compromised to the point where a full duty load is an unacceptable burden to the subject’s mental health. Restricted to light duty in civilian restaurant facilities on board for 6-8 weeks. Fitness for duty to be reassessed throughout routine mandatory mid-week check-ins and weekly counseling sessions.

DISCUSSION

Subject is an Ensign in the sciences department who has just completed his first full year of active duty aboard the U.S.S. Mariner. Subject presented for annual mental health evaluation. Subject is a vulcan-human hybrid that presents with primarily vulcan mannerisms typical of vulcan offspring. However, authority notes that subject’s speech patterns wavered and subject’s body language fit the profile of threat assessment behavior, both indicating the possibility of heightened anxiety. This behavior was observed by authority immediately upon subject entering the room.

Subject admits to minimizing REM sleep due to vivid nightmares related to a recent classified assignment, the details of which this authority is not privy to. Inquiries regarding the subject’s state of wellness were met with answers this authority deems to be a matter of concern. Subject is quoted, “I do not understand… why [understanding and logic] won’t silence the screams.” Subject has demonstrated remarkably clear outward signs of post-traumatic stress, which authority finds especially concerning given subject’s mental discipline to quell emotional responses, as well as its incongruence with subject’s past profile of optimistic behavior.

Subject insists that focusing on duty allows for him to maintain a clear mental separation. However, given subject’s half-human biology, current predilection for sleep deprivation, and outward signs of emotional distress that are extremely uncommon in half-vulcan individuals, authority finds the subject unfit for standard duty shifts in his present state. Subject has been temporarily reassigned to assist with food preparation in this vessel’s onboard culinary facilities. Subject’s human family raised him to assist with work in their restaurant on Earth, so authority believes it to be prudent to immerse him in a more familiar environment to create mental distance between subject and recent events.

A request for additional information regarding the subject’s recent assignment is to be subsequently filed by authority with subject’s commanding officer for the purpose of assisting with planned treatment.
