The R.R.W. Virin (RRF-96284-34-1) is a Faeht Class warbird operated by the Romulan Republican Force.
It is a fast attack escort, designed as a heavier alternative to the Malem-class of warbirds. The ship possesses a sleek profile and advance anti-sensor hull plating to prevent detection by hostiles.
It possess significant, heavy forward armaments designed to operate under the RRF’s ruling fast attack doctrine. It also possesses significant improvements in sensor technology, making it on part with many vessels of equivalent size in Starfleet.
History
Completed in 2414 as part of the initial rollout of the Faeht-Class of warbirds, the vessel saw limited service on the Republic’s frontiers. The vessel proved itself to be a capable escort, participating in several notable engagements against hostile Hirogen elements on the frontier.
In 2418, the ship suffered a direct hit during an engagement against Star Empire forces near Rator III. Though the crew survived, the ship was brought back to the Valdore Shipyards for extensive repairs.
Just a year later, the ship returned to active service. Through intensive debate, Republic Intelligence agreed to allow the vessel to be transitioned into the Romulan Republican Force. Commander Nathes, an accomplished officer, was placed in overall command of the warbird. Since CDR Nathes assumed command, the vessel has participated in several operations: Notably on the frontier, and also attached to the JSI within the Federation’s 38th Fleet.

The RRW Virin follows standard fast attack doctrine utilized by the Romulan Republican Forces. It consists of notable forward facing weapons, along with three forward facing torpedo tubes. The vessel is employed with the latest Romulan Battle Cloak, allowing it to remain virtually undetected while in use.
Propulsion Systems
RRW Virin is equiped with a series 2414-C hyper stabilizing singularity core. The singularity core, perfected in the aftermath of the Iconian War, allows the vessel to achieve warp velocities that far exceed previous vessels of its class.
The singularity core also provides the vessel with maneuverability on par with the Malem-class series of warbirds. Lastly, the power output of the singularity core allows the ship’s weapons to punch well above their weight.
A significant engineering presence is the main drawback of this singularity core. It requires extensive calibration and maintenance before each sortie. To counter this drawback, the Virin has a significantly larger engineering complement than other vessels of its size.
Guard-Marine Complement
In light of the numerous threats the Romulan Republic has faced, standard RRF doctrine now calls for Guard Marines to be stationed on all RRF vessels. The Guard Marines, consisting mostly of Remans but also some Romulans, are the spearhead of any potential boarding action. Their mission is simple: Overwhelming the enemy before the enemy has a chance to counter attack.
The Virin has thirty Guard Marines stationed on the vessel, each of which forms a squad of ten. These Guard Marines are counted amongst the elite of the military. They are well armed, disciplined, and seldom fail to carryout orders.
