BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Rayna was born to Maquis parents on Volan III. Her parents were killed a few months later by a Cardassian orbital bombardment on the Maquis headquarters. She grew up in an orphanage on Volan III before a mysterious fire ravaged the building when she was six. Taken away as a refugee, she was left on Nimbus III to fend for herself. This she did, through criminal means. Eventually, she was recruited by the Nimbus Syndicate and was deployed to do their dirty work in return for warm food and a roof. This was how she found herself on the wrong side of Federation Law.
When an assassination went wrong, the sixteen-year-old Rayna was apprehended by Admiral Sebastian Bishop after she tried to assault him. Sensing something in the young girl, he dropped all charges and invited her to come and live with his wife, the pair always wanting to have a child. Rayna accepted and through Seb's coxing, eventually joined the Academy, turning over a new leaf and determined to leave her past behind.
She excelled at this, showing a natural command aptitude. When she graduated, she took on a role as Secondary Tactical Bridge Officer on the USS Javelin. Her diligent service on the ship earned her two promotions and at the end of the Javelin's Tour of Duty, she was transferred to Deep Space 5 as part of the security team. It was when Captain Demroz of the USS Maginot was passing through and noticed the young Lieutenant, did he ask for her to transfer aboard the Maginot and serve as his First Officer after her promotion. Her time on the Maginot was not exceptional, the young LCDR stuggling in her role as XO. Demroz was not deterred though. Realising that perhaps she would be suited to a different command style and ship, he contacted his friend, Captain James Shephard and the two switched XOs. On the Normandy, Rayna excelled and rightfully earned her promotion. Knowing that she could still be pushed further, Captain Shepherd requested that Rayna be given command of the newly commissioned USS Zulu.
Rayna was assigned to DS13 in early 2417 with the Zulu and in an effort to get to know her crew better, set off on a long patrol. When the crew returned to DS13 in April 2417, she was certain that they could excel.
