Dear Sirs

As a result of the incident aboard DS13, Invictus Science were handed what appeared to be a decaying corpse, along with footage that showed it shambling out of the docking tube from the Invictus. We conducted a full autopsy of the corpse, which scans revealed as having been produced by a replicator, and also having signatures consistent with the Invictus' primary holodeck computer.

Invictus science believe that this entity was the product of some sort of technical malfunction involving the holoemitter arrays, during the game of Infection played on Deck 8 of the Invictus during our return from Risa. It appears to have been generated in a maintenance conduit, and escaped detection as the game did not include such areas. Footage shows that it was 'killed' by a phaser set to stun, which appears to have scrambled a program, of which we retrieved a handful of code fragments, from a small processor contained in the region that on a sentient would be termed the brainstem. This does not appear to have been capable of supporting any cognition, and appears to have simply contained the holodeck code for operating the muscles. The creature appears to have had no ability to navigate, and no sensory input paths were detected in the chip. It appears to have fallen through a maintenance hatch during a shift change, into the docking tube, which shows evidence of 'Roomba Navigation' behaviour, and then moved directly into the docking bay.

Invictus Ops has since fully overhauled the program, and found the corrupted line of code that appears to have combined with a phase spike in the transporter unit controls to result in the 'zombie' being produced. This code has been corrected and additional damping fitted to the safety interlock between the transporters and holodeck computers.
