Security Levels / Classification of Comms and Reports

When posting a comm or report, you’ll find you have a choice of three security levels. These are meant to simplify the process of determining who can read what, and what “classified” might mean. The descriptions below should help you determine which level to make your post.

Please note that unless otherwise specified:

…anything posted in Open Frequency is assumed to be public.

…anything posted in Communications is assumed to be sent only to the addressee(s), with the security level only determining how securely it should be treated by people.

…anything posted in Reports is assumed to be filed in a fleet database, with the security level determining both how it should be treated by people and who can actually access it on the computer.

Standard encryption.
Comms are shareable by recipients, and free to discuss in public.
Reports are available to all fleet members, and searchable in the IC database.

Improved encryption.
Comms are to be shared with need-to-know only, and may be discussed discreetly.
Reports are accessible by those with need-to-know or other relevant permission.

Highest encryption.
Comms are not to be shared or discussed except in private with other authorized individuals.
Reports are accessible only by Fleet Command and those with a need-to-know.

Some other notes:

  • When acting as part of the 38th Fleet, it is assumed that reports filed by Romulan Republic officers go into the normal database, same as Starfleet. If reporting internally to the Republic instead, please specify that in the OOC section.

  • Klingons have their own ZP Comms and ZP Reports forums to use for anything specific to that faction. Posting in the regular category instead of the ZP one represents using the Federation network and the above security levels apply accordingly.

  • If you’re posting as (or reading a post by) a member of the dominion or some other faction, please use common sense in determining access levels! This is an intentionally simplified classification system, and cannot cover every single possible unique situation. Act in good faith OOCly and everything will be okay!
