Doza Sector, Alpha Quadrant
Doza is a planetary star system in the Doza Sector of the Alpha Quadrant, that was previously home to a Federation Colony. The system currently consists of three planets. Doza I is B-Class, hot, rocky, uninhabitable. Doza II and Doza III are J-Class Gas Giants.
The Doza System was first charted by the Federation in 2408 during the initial survey of the previously unexplored sector designated Alpha-7193. Consisting of four fairly standard planets, the system's sole M-Class world was soon purposed as a long-term refugee camp for colonists of the Ba'aja Sector that were displaced by the Federation-Klingon War. Despite its location at the very edge of explored space, Doza IV grew quickly into a fully-fledged colony in its own right. By early 2414, Doza IV had been named a colony of the Federation, granting citizenship to its eighty thousand inhabitants.
This period of prosperity ground to a sudden halt in December of 2414, when the Borg invaded the system. Doza's defenses were quickly overwhelmed, and even after reinforcements arrived from the nearby 38th Fleet, the planet was lost. Approximately thirteen thousand colonists were evacuated before Starfleet was forced to withdraw and regroup. A battlegroup was formed to retake the planet, but Starfleet wasn't the only power at work. During the effort to reclaim the now-assimilated colony, a fleet led by a renegade Romulan faction launched their own assault.
During the later-named Battle of Doza, the rogue Romulan forces detonated a genesis-type protomatter matrix warhead on the Doza IV surface. The resultant energy wave consumed all matter on the planet, including the Borg invasion force and the entire assimilated population, leaving behind only a terraformed landscape. Eventually, the remaining Borg forces in orbit were eliminated, and the Romulans withdrew, but the damage was done. Within two weeks, Doza IV had been entirely ripped apart by tidal forces caused by the unstable terraforming matrix. The remaining debris scattered into a thin belt of planetary fragments, now occupying the Doza System's fourth orbit.
When the Federation began a renewed exploration of Alpha-7193 in 2415, the sector was renamed in honor of the lost colony.
