The Elox star system consists of six planets and a dense asteroid belt. Only one planet is significantly inhabited, but the Elox have created research outposts on several other bodies.

GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE Elox V is a large planet with an exceedingly dense atmosphere and intense gravity of 4.78g. The sensitivity of the Elox host animals to changes in their environment has confined significant urban development to a thick band around the equator. Imaging the planet’s surface with a standard sensor array is difficult due to atmospheric conditions, but the Elox have provided this map for reference. The weather is volatile and frequent storms are common through much of the year. The atmosphere contains trace metallic elements and is unsuitable for most species to breathe, with or without significant filtering. The metallic traces also make freestanding site-to-site transport on the surface an impossibility. The Elox use transporters, but via a complex cabling system rather than targeted beams. **Author’s note: It won’t help with transporter interference, but I’ve also included the modifications suggested by one of their engineers that should let our sensors cut through most of the atmospheric clutter. -MP //ATTACHMENT// sensormods.cfg

FLORA AND FAUNA Due to the hazardous surface conditions and the Elox aversion to visitors, there is no comprehensive analysis of the native flora and fauna. The Elox themselves are a sentient plant species, entirely dependent upon a symbiotic relationship with a native non-sentient animal species for mobility. A structure closely conforming to fungal spores is emitted from the Elox; these spores become attached to a receptive lifeform and slowly colonize the cells of the animal, reducing and then eliminating the animal's need to ingest sustenance as photosynthesis takes over. Once established, the Elox/animal lifespan averages 80 Earth years, with some individuals living much longer by reducing their activity level and going into hibernation for months or years at a time.

HISTORY The Federation made official first contact with the Elox when scouting the Xarantine sector in 2406. They are warp-capable and the diplomatic corps made an overture, but the Elox were overtly hostile to what they perceived as outsider interference. After failing to interest the Elox in cultural, technological or economic exchange, the FDC withdrew its team. A few Elox ships have been sighted since then, but they are exclusively scouting and science ships, no warships or freighters. Any attempt at communication results in brusque or no response and a retreat of the Elox vessel. Despite their unwillingness to communicate or treat with the galactic community, in 2419, the Elox permitted the emergency medical treatment of a Federation citizen to take place on their homeworld. This situation was successfully resolved and a special envoy has now been appointed to encourage further diplomatic development.
