Subj: Mobile Drydock at Yuhop

The damage that is being suffered by our ships is high. We cannot keep sending those with major repairs back to DS13. We need a mobile drydock deployed at Yuhop so we can fix ours and allied ships and get them back to the front lines as fast as possible. Please make sure we get one, as a matter of urgency.

Subj: Mobile Drydock Component Construction Order (ORDERS: 98870.9-VAL-1)

Commander Carter,

Apologies that we have yet to formally meet before I need to pass you these orders. Captain Varley has tasked me with constructing a mobile drydock that will be deployed forward in support of the Terran Conflict.

Attached you will find:

  • General Schematics to follow. Do have an Engineering Design Review verify that my simulation study did not overlook any variables. Make necessary changes as you and your team see fit, provided the modularity of the design remains. It is the Captain’s intent that we get forward-deployed capabilities to repair vessels As Soon As Possible in order to minimize fleet redeployment and repair times. As such, this design calls for a modular approach, allowing the mobile drydock to handle escort and small science vessels with Stage 1, Cruiser configurations with Stage 2, and Dreadnaught-sized vessels in Stage 3.
  • Orders for tasking in 3 stages the manufacture of the components necessary to complete the drydock.
  • The original memorandum that makes the request for this construction.

Please acknowledge receipt and reply with a timeline as to when each stage will be complete, so I can coordinate with Fleet for delivery of the components to their destination in a timely manner for on-site assembly.

Note: We will not pre-assemble the components in DS13 space. Any errors or corrections will be made at the destination with requests for replacement made at time of discovery. This means there is little or no room for error.

On a personal note, I recognize the immense amount of resources in material, industrial replicator time, and personnel hours this project will take, while juggling repairs to the active fleet. Please, do not hesitate to come and voice your concerns to me. I am confident in you and your team’s skills and dedication as ‘miracle workers.’

(The Schematics call for a modular drydock with a tubular, duratanium exoskeleton, pressurized gangways with inspection windows residing within. The central spar has a small command station and room for a single barracks with minimum life-quality, docking for four inspection and maintenance pods. The central spar connects to two boom arms which can be added to in order to increase the length to repair larger vessels. The booms are cross-braced underneath the berth, and have one extendable gangway each to an inboard vessel. Each boom also has two gravimetric arms to hold ships in place. The drydock is immobile, but has inertial dampening and reaction control thrusters to help it maintain station while laden with the mass of a dreadnaught.)

Admiral,

I would like to volunteer the Valkyrie to assist in preparation and operation of the Yuhop Field Drydock. I believe our expanded compliment of Workbee support craft would be an invaluable asset in the construction of the drydock framework, and would be available to assist in repair and refit operations as necessary.

And if I may be so bold, I’m no stranger to hastily constructing bare bones orbital installations in the Doza sector. My team and I are ready to pitch in, just give the word.

Subj: RE: Suggestion for USS Valkyrie Tasking

Admiral,

Tasking the Valkyrie to assist in the construction is sound judgment, if the ship is not needed elsewhere. We can assemble the initial modules and have the Valkyrie tow it into place at low warp. From there, Stages 2 and 3 can be brought by a large cruiser or transport vessel with cargo sapce sufficient for the components.

Once the drydock is operational, I think it was Captain’s Varley’s intent to have the drydock crewed by DS-13 crew instead of a fleet unit. Given the relative complement differences (several thousand vs twenty-six), I’m included to agree that the Valkyrie might be ill-suited to direct operations of the drydock, regardless of her crew’s expertise.

It is my suggestion instead that the Valkyrie be used as her namesake suggests- to bring the wounded ships to the drydock, since the station won’t be capable of collecting them. In this way, the Valkyrie and the drydock would work in tandem in support of the main effort, as each was designed.

The drydock will need to be assembled here. Commander Kermit, the Valkyrie will be retasked to bring the drydock here, along with any necessary DS13 personnel to crew it. It will need to be assembled, crewed, and fully ready to accept ships by Stardate 98884.3. This task will be overseen by Subcommander T’Valerius, working with Deep Space 13 Engineering.

Once you are here, Commander Kermit, you will be required to act as a rescue ship for any vessels stranded post battle. You will required and requested to withdraw from any engagements so as to preserve the ship.

Please note that, in accordance with spacefaring law, you will be required to respond to distress calls and give aid as appropriate.
