BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Born aboard a Romulan cargo freighter Dirax in 2374, thirteen years before the Romulan star went supernova, to his Vulcan mother T’Lin and Romulan father Verrihk; Rutal spent much of his youth aboard his father’s ship, transporting goods to new Romulan colonies and trading with Federation outposts and stations. Since he spent all his time aboard the Dirax alongside his father, mother and the rest of the crew it wasn’t long before Rutal started picking up the ropes of ship repairs and general engineering.
Around the time Rutal turned 15 years old his father decided to take a more active role in the emerging Romulan Republic, born out the principles that lead to his and his wife’s marriage, and he left with his mother to Vulcan, furthering his studies in academic sciences.
Though his father now served in the Romulan Republic as a Commander; when Rutal turned 18 in 2392 enlisted in StarFleet academy,believing it to be a more logical choice. He opted into advanced engineering courses, spending 4 years dedicated to his studies before graduating in 2406 as an Ensign, along with a posting to the San Francisco Shipyards. His skills manifested in retrofitting and repairing starships, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Jr Grade in 2408 and Lieutenant in 2411, showing adeptness with unorthodox solutions with a wide range of components, an often invaluable skill when supplies were stretched thin during the wars with the Klingons.
When the Iconian War began in 2414, However, Rural’s opinion regarding his post had changed. With the war claiming more lives and ships than ever; He decided his skills would be better utilised aboard an active vessel… as well as for the desire to spend time out on a starship.
He put in a transfer request to the USS Palisade, a Regent-Class Cruiser, and served as an engineer during its time during the war and after it, achieving the position of Assistant Chief Engineer by 2417.
In 2419 the USS Palisade and a majority of its senior staff and crew were reassigned as it underwent a well overdue refit. Rutal decided to take the opportunity to request transfer to the 38th fleet to continue serving where he felt most logical. And at home.
