BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS
As a young child growing up in central North American, Thurston always dreamt of flight. As he grew into pre-teen and later early teenager, he began to get into a lot of trouble with a short temper and eagerness for fighting. Concerned that his temperament might cause him to lose any opportunity to become any sort of pilot anywhere, the Thurston family elected to enroll their son into various extracurricular activities centered around the local primary school and later at the local community level in an effort to find something for him to direct his energy into. A family friend later became his mentor and got him into a regional physical fitness center and from then on, Thurston has been fascinated with pushing his body as far as it will go in bodybuilding and weightlifting. A marked decline in altercations with authority was a direct result of this newfound hobby, and, according to Mr. and Mrs. Thurston, saved their son from not being able to achieve his dream of flight.

During James academic years, he continued to press on his goal of learning to fly. During many of his weekends or holiday breaks from high school he spent his time at a small local airport and by the time of his junior year earned his first flight rating - single propeller engines below 10,000 pounds. By the start of his senior year he was up to twin propeller engines, and his love of flying (and accumulated hours in the pilot's seat) inspired him to write the essay "Winds of Change, Wings of Inspiration", his personal story of rising up against any challenges he had previously faced in life. This essay was later part of his admittance package to Starfleet Academy, where he was accepted and began Fall Quarter, 2407. His commissioned in 2411 granted the rank of Ensign and assignment at Earth Space Dock where he flew as a shuttle pilot for the ambassadorial section of the starbase. Many of his flights were centered around ferrying diplomatic entourages across the Solar System from one function to another.

Lieutenant Thurston has since been assigned to the 38th Fleet where he has been assigned to the USS Shackleton as its helmsman.
