RP in Strike Force: Kargas comes and goes and rarely stays around long. And, most of what we do centers around dealing with TF:A, not that that is a bad thing but there are more to Klingons than just that.
I’ve talked to Razor and XR about these ideas. So, after talking to XR for a short bit I mentioned posting the ideas up to the general public. This takes some of the burden off of people like Quaen, Razor, and XR as any of you that like these ideas can take them and run with them and make them your own. It’s always good to get RP going. And if you are worried that you might not be good at it and have held back holding an event Fed side, what better place to try and learn then in Strike Force: Kargas (where it desperately needs ANY RP it can get)?
The ideas are rather generic and details are not as specified for a reason. Since I’m not around to help run and manage SF:K I don’t feel right laying out every single little detail because then it feels like I’m demanding these get done. Personally I don’t care if no one likes these ideas and decides not to use them, you aren’t going to hurt my feelings. But here they are anyways just in case someone sees one and would like to use one or more.
These are also generic enough that those that do not play traditional Klingons (or don’t play Klingons at all) can use/participate in them. RP of any kind is good and it feeds off itself. The more it happens on red side the more I feel it will happen on Fed side.
Hopefully someone likes at least one of these ideas and is able to run with it and generate interest to get the ball rolling on some SF:K RP. I’m happy to help out however I can in my limited capacity and provide guidance, details, plot twists, etc. But until I’m home in fall/winter I won’t be of much use for actually being in the events.
If anyone does want to run one of these, I don’t think you need to ask permission. Just make it so. And feel free to change/modify/combine any of these ideas. Hope they help. And if you want help/ideas with any please do not hesitate to PM/mail me.
The List:
Great Supply. SF:K makes first contact with an alien race which has great resources. They have some interesting/very alien technology that is curious. But their culture and tech achievements has been stagnant for some time and it looks like they basically stole their tech from early/pre warp worlds. They are not honorable. Do we make friends since they are conquerors like us or are they dishonorable and just petty thieves in our eyes? Do we invade (and annex) them since it will be an easy victory for such great warriors as us? Do we keep our discovery a secret from the High Command and just make deals that benefit SF:K?
RESULT: With SF:K being diverse (for Klingon fleet) it will generate many perspectives. Can be done socially or even create a quick small RP missions via Foundry. Also allows players to make entries on this race in the UFP databanks on the forums.
Murder! A political figure visits SF:K’s base only to be murdered. An investigation can ensue. The murderer (NPC, extra toon, etc.) then goes on the run (to like Bajor and First City and so on) and to restore honor SF:K must track down the Peta’Q and bring him to justice the Klingon Way.
RESULT: Gives SF:K the chance to RP in the open via local chat in social zones as they conduct a search and question NPCs on the location of the fugitive. May generate interest in players passing by looking for an RP fleet.
Monument. This is pretty lame and really a 1 off thing that truly is not that interesting but I’m still tossing it out there. Not sure if any memorial/traditional Klingon funeral was ever done for Wrot’Ka but I think that might actually generate interesting RP. It’s a social event and a chance for Klingons to act Klingon at such a service. Plus IC Wrot’Ka is dead (even though he will come back). BTW the last of Wrot’Ka’s house, Krett, all “died” fighting the Gladiator.
RESULT: Social event that gets people to talk about life, death, the war, politics, how much they hated Wrot’Ka, etc.
Yesterdays Future. SF:K finds a Klingon ship that has crashed in the polar caps of a planet. But it’s discovered the ship has been there for some 50,000yrs but is extremely advanced. Time traveling accident or just an advanced race that is very similar (to include the remains of bodys) to Klingons? Do we exploit the tech or is that dishonorable? Will it tamper with the time line or is it what is supposed to happen to keep the time line? Paradoxes and bloodwine all around!
RESULT: Allows the science leaning players to really shine while coming up with explinations. Generates RP based around moral choices on handling time traveling if it is a ship from the future and not just another race. If it’s just a ship from another race related to Klingons what does this mean for the Empire and our heritage?
Tradition. For simple social events it can easily be RP’ed that SF:K is celebrating a victory against the Fed/Rom/Breen/Borg/etc. This can occur pretty frequent and can be pretty laid back as its talks of glory and war stories and lets people RP their toons and get some background info.
RESULT: Social RP event that can be repeated. This can even ensue with those that don’t brag about their exploits but are at the base for resupply and are having to explain why they ran out of torps and so forth.
Friend or Foe? The time has come to seriously consider if we will cease hostilities towards the Romulans and help them rebuild or do we sweep in and crush them? This might be something good to RP against the 26th Praetorian fleet as I believe they are “big” on New Romulus (If they would like to). If we do commit to war is it against the Tal Shiar side or the peaceful ones on N.R. If it’s peace, peace with Tal Shiar or the nice ones? Many perspectives on this I’m sure. (I for one say crush them!)
RESULT: Many different perspectives means good in-depth RP that allows players to really learn about each others toons and where they stand. Allows for strategic planning (even if we decide to not crush them youll always need a contingency plan). Any RP done on New Romulus (which I recommend) could catch someones eye that is looking for an RP group which means we might get some recruits from it for red side which generates even more RP.
Gorn. The Popularity of a Gorn revolution, to throw off the chains of the Empire, is growing. How should it be handled? Show them the benefits of standing with the Empire? Or show them the consequences for standing against the Empire? SF:K Must make a stand that will reflect on the Empire. Could cause some interesting RP in a social type function hearing each person’s side/feelings on it/ideas on how to handle.
RESULT: Again with strategic planning for at least a contingency plan. Again with perspectives esp. from the Gorn playerbase.
Epic Villain. Could be a mad scientist, a rouge General, a terrorist, a dishonorable political figure, etc. Someone (NPC/spare toon slot from someone/Foundry mission) is a threat to the Empire and what it stands for. Could be a devious chemical being made, dishonorable dealings that are tarnishing the Empire, cowardly murders, whatever. SF:K must track this bastard down.
RESULT: Every great story has a badguy trying to muck things up. He/she should probably have followers to fight in maybe a really simple, yet difficult, foundry mission fight. Allows a lot of participation as we’d have to run the gauntlet to track them down and/or deal with whatever mastermind plot they have in motion. Also allows players to make entries on this individual(s) in the UFP databanks on the forums.
Rise Against the Machines. You can actually lump this in with the Epic Villain idea. Have some of the Klingon side Android BO’s develop emotion. They can go crazy, or be too dishonorable, or view the KDF as inferior and should serve them not the other way around. Smarter, stronger, faster… a difficult opponent there.
RESULT: Challenging debate on the morality of artificial slave labor. Somple players even have the Android BO. Perhaps a foundry mission might help for fighting them if it comes to it.
Rise Against the Machines (v2.0). SF:K makes contact with a completely and totally artificial race. They have 0% organics in their culture and homeworld and are 100% machine. Do they have emotions? Are they to be trusted? How much have they advanced in the last decade and are they/will they be a threat the Empire?
RESULT: Good RP event that really hasn’t been done a whole lot in ST. Allows each player to use their career choice to come up with explanations to these things while figuring them out and coming up with strategic ideas on how to keep them at bay/destroy them if needed. Also allows players to use the forums to list details on this race in the UFP databanks.
Tholians! Can RP SF:K spearheading the assault on Nukara Prime to slay some Tholians and show them who the true power of the Galaxy belongs to.
RESULT: Event run PVE. It’s a fun adventure zone and can get in some good RP while pew pewing. Again, RPing in local chat here might drum up some interest from nearby players looking to join an RP group.
Errand of War. TOS Episode “Errand of Mercy” showcased the Orgainians who stopped the Feds and Klinks from fighting. I won’t go into long detail but there is info on why they no longer do so if you search memory-beta and alpha. Anyhow, maybe revisit them now that they are in their weakened state.
RESULT: Opens up old wounds, explores the past, justifies the present, allows moral choices/debate. Again, small brief foundry mission would probably help.
Give war a chance. SF:K discovers a planet that is warp capable and in a state of a world war. Can make up backgrounds/politics for both/all sides. Should SF:K get involved? Should we pick sides? They are not very advanced so they could all be dominated by force. If left unresolved they could destroy themselves and the planet which has resources needed for the warfront.
RESULT: RP ideas on how to handle them and what to do. More of a social event than anything as I doubt they would put up a worthy fight. Also allows players to make entries on this race in the UFP databanks on the forums.
Aegis. Not sure how many are familiar with the fact that the Aegis set in-game is derived from a back story about Gary Seven (TOS: “Assignment: Earth”). Aegis basically abducts individuals and turns them into super spy agents sent to sway important events on worlds. SF:K discovers such an agent. But what are his intentions? Do they benefit the Empire or is he/she here to sway the war in the Feds favor? Does the agent even know SF:K is on to them?
RESULT: Allows players to work together to keep tabs on the Agent and track them down. Can even go undercover yourselves to gather further intel on them.
The Strong Shall Inherit. With everything going on, people have forgotten about the Deferi. Now that the Feds are busy, SF:K can swoop in and be the heroes and rescue them from the Borg.
RESULT: PVE content in the adventure zone on Deferi vs the Borg. Allows pew pew plus RP in a really fun and exciting area. Plus RPing in the open like that might generate attention and possibly recruit someone looking for an RP group.
Rerun. Hit up the Featured Episodes with a full team. Run through them as I don’t think we ever really RPed them out or anything from them.
RESULT: Gets players together to RP through PVE content that is loads of fun. There’s plenty of stuff there and allows for pew pew and RP in the sense of getting to know/character development of toons through choices, actions, and results of missions.
Call To Arms! I think some promotions on Klink side are needed (maybe even demotions/boots for inactive players). A reward system of perhaps a promotion within the fleet for those that donate the most to the fleet base in a month. Also, a reward for any that generate a good story arc Klink side that spans a few RPs. I am willing to entertain ideas on how this could/should work as it is not completed or implemented yet. But I would like to see some things happen in SF:K that gets that side moving a little bit and generates interest. Ideas and thoughts on how to do that are welcome.
Recruit. We need players in SF:K. I think it would help that side out a lot if some people set out to specifically recruit Klingon RPers rather than recruit Fed side and have them dump an alt in SF:K that they only get on once a month. Just walk around and read peoples bio’s, if they have something decent and don’t belong to a fleet, PM them. What is the worst that could happen? Believe it or not there are a ton of RPers on red side, and luckily not many of them are in RP fleets. Even if it looks like they do belong to a fleet, and the fleet name is something really really lame (Meathooks House of Awesomeness) maybe PM them anyways. Perhaps they just joined that fleet and are with them until something better comes along… might seem kind of shady I know, but that’s honestly how I was Klingon side until we started SF:K.
Also, if you guys are RPing in the open and someone becomes interested, I ask that you please divert all attention to them and put the RP event 2nd (or at least devote 1 or 2 players to specifically talk to them). Maybe invite them along for the fun if they seem mature enough to not crap on the party. If they start to ruin it, just block them, no biggie.
Already getting started on it, Boss!! XR Can tell ya! ^_^
Agree all the way!
I pitched this idea as Fed event, but honestly I think it would be a lot more entertaining to do it as Klingons.
Klingons Vs Salt Zombies : A Strike Force : Kargas Battle Group raiding the Romulan Boarder territories finds the Idealic planet for some much needed Recreation. A Backworld who's wilderness if filled with strange and exotic beasts. The Officers land for a glorious day of the Hunt. But little do they know this world has been claimed by another... more sinister prey... and the Hunters will become the Hunted.
((Literally a one off event where everyone runs around in a goofy situation as angry Klingons, while trying to survive a mini-zombie apocalypse.))

LOVE IT!!!! I actually almost want you guys to hold off on this until I'm home haha. But that's selfish.
This is a great idea I think and would be loads of fun to RP through that event.

As for the funeral idea, I started working on a foundry mission for this (for when Tanis was still thought dead). It was basically left very open but you could trigger certain NPCs to move the story along. Also had it taking place on his ship so I recreated his BOFFs as NPCs you could talk to to get their back stories and their reactions.
Never finished it, but I could put the last touches on it and post it up for anyone who wants to run it for ideas.

Sounds excellent, Tanis. I know I'd love to give it a run
If I get the time together I'll try to have it finished this week and throw it up.
Sweet!
Remember folks, Officers AND Master Captains can create Events! Simply place up what you think works if you have something strong to go with. And as always, if you want to talk with me about it, in game mail is most reliable! Pleased with the initiative I have seen!
