It’s hard to keep in touch when someone isn’t a quick turbolift or transporter hop away. Being tied to the station for so long, I guess I got a bit complacent with it. And not just with you.
Am I well? That is a complicated question right now. Honestly with everything that’s been going on I haven’t had much time to think about it.

Well, there is an objective measure we can try. If you would, look around your ready room and and let me know:
(1) count of items/devices that are broken or damaged from being thrown, punched, or otherwise physically abused
(2) count of empty or partially empty kali-fal bottles

He’s not. But now that you bring it up, maybe that would be appropriate compensation for the suffering I go through as his executive officer.
I’m afraid I must disappoint you when I say that I’ve let my fencing practice lapse a bit, now that I’m not able to regularly monopolize the holodecks for my single reservations. That said, given the times, maybe it would be prudent to try to shake off the rust. Not that I’m expecting to participate in any boarding actions any time… soon, exactly.
Would you call your melee tactics typical for your species? Asking for a friend.
Also, don’t think I didn’t notice that you reported on only one of the two counts I asked for.

My fighting style, typical? If it were anyone asking I might think you were trying to insult me with the insinuation. But I should have a holo-file or two your friend might appreciate if the Empire ever decided to drop in unexpectedly.
And if that friend happens to be James you can tell him it’s a simulation for skiing, or riding horsebacks, or one of those other hobbies Terrans seem so fond of.
Do try to keep him in one piece, if you can. For Lir.

As much as I care for Lir, let me reassure you that I have additional selfish interest in keeping James in one piece, as I have zero desire to inherit the center chair.
Though it was not my intention when striking up correspondence, I now find myself compelled to ask. I’ve heard many voices in passing presenting conjecture on what it will take to end this conflict and to what ends the Federation and the Republic might need to go. Typically I don’t like to indulge in this; the conflict has barely started, it seems futile to spend too many mental cycles on what it would take to end it.
But I find myself interested in hearing your perspective on this. Our nations may be formal allies, but I respect that this is – in a lot of ways – your fight. And though I am relieved that Starfleet has not chosen to stand idly by this time, I am cognizant that our legal limits may not overlap fully with the Republic’s in these matters.
Care to speculate? I know you can only speak for yourself, but I’d consider you representative to a large degree. (I swear that’s supposed to be a compliment.)
I feel like if I had a good answer for that I’d be on the Senate floor instead of a warbird bridge. Fending off the Tal Shiar years ago brought the Republic together, but stopping them took everything we had. We’ve had years to build ourselves up but so have they, and maybe if we were in our own in this I might be a little more worried.
But this is still the full force of the Empire standing against us. Expecting this to have a quick, simple ending is fallacy, and underestimating them will only hurt us, Rihannsu and Federation alike.
If we can hit them hard, pin them down, and grind them 'til they bleed, maybe the fools on Rator will see that the price of their gambit isn’t nearly worth the cost they’ll pay. Then again, they are fools.
And if the Empire actually did decide to give up the fight and surrender? What then? Is there retribution you feel should be exacted? Territory to cede? Reparations or conditions for a … treaty?
What would you compromise (dirty word, I know) on, Davin?
