Director Inman,
I am a civilian nurse who has been filling in with Deep Space 13’s Medical Department and I have been advised that I can qualify for entry into Starfleet via the stations academy branch. I would like to pursue this opportunity if I am found to be within acceptable parameters for such an endeavor.

A bit about me: I am a married mother of three. My husband, LCDR Vonn Reese, serves onboard the USS Dragon (NCC-93887-A) as Chief Operations Officer. I was born in Portland, Oregon, in 3 August 2388. My parents are Capt Regiatta Tohanna (ret) and Dr Joachim Schenkle, PhD.

Though I may seem to be starting out a bit late in my life for this, I can assure you that I can pass the physical tests and my health boards are within satisfactory thresholds for acceptance. I believe my skills as a nurse with concentrated experience in emergency room triage, trauma stabilization, and surgical assistance as I have been informed Starfleet is short on experienced medical staff.

I also wanted to check to see if my prior civilian education and certifications would allow me to graduate earlier than the normal four years. If that isn’t possible, I would still like to apply.

It is indeed possible to earn a Starfleet commission considering your prior medical training, without completing a full degree program. This program is not specific to medical personnel, nor is it linked to current active duty staffing levels.

You need simply fill out the application for commissioning. The application will guide you through the process of providing appropriate transcripts and documentation of prior education and credentials. Upon acceptance, you will receive a personalized training plan, typically consisting of 1-2 semesters of academy coursework.
