Dr. Alvarez,

The procedure to replace Lieutenant Andersson's primary optical cortex implant was carried out last night as scheduled and proceeded according to plan. Upon waking this morning the Lieutenant related that her vision has returned to the normal expected level, with a slight improvement attributed to the degradation of her previous implant. She has spent the remainder of today resting and has as of 21:45 hours starbase time has been discharged from the hospital complex.

Lieutenant Andersson has been advised to rest from her normal duties for a further 48 hours and to alert the hospital complex to any irregularities with the new implant. Problems notwithstanding she is now returned to your expert care, however we would request a follow-up within the next four earth days be made for a routine post-operative check. With your permission this would normally be carried out by your own staff aboard ship, however if that is not possible please contact us here on deep space 13.

With best regards,

Dr. Alvarez,

Lieutenant Andersson presented herself at the hospital complex this morning. Her experience leads her to believe that the calibration of her implant was abnormal and as such bright lights were causing overloads which are extremely uncomfortable and disorienting for her. We have accessed the remote calibration function of the implant and have completely reset it to its original state. Having completed this step we ran through the basic calibration program in the holodeck with Lieutenant Andersson, something she advised is not normally necessary, however it seems in this case a more stable baseline is required for the implant to achieve normal operation. Captain DuPont has kindly extended Miss Andersson's medical leave by a further 48 hours.

The Lieutenant and I are optimistic that no further problems will be encountered. We request that her routine post operative appointment be kept and as always please do contact the hospital complex should you need any assistance.

With best regards,

Nurse,

Your calibration of the device should function properly, perhaps there is an underlying neurological problem with the Lieutenants current cyber optical implants. Embedding of such a device can be rather tedious at best. Regarding the check up, in light of the recent events it is better for the hospital complex on Deep Space 13 to carry this out.

Your expert care is to be trusted. Captain DuPont relies on the woman for her new winery.

Signed,
