U.S.S. DunVegan
The U.S.S. DunVegan (NCC-93198E) is a Federation Galaxy-class starship operated by Starfleet. Originally commissioned as a long-range exploration vessel, DunVegan was a part of the last production run of Galaxy-class ships, a sister ship to the U.S.S. Enterprise D. Over its 42 year service history, the ship has undergone several systems retrofits for a variety of mission profiles.
History
The DunVegan was original commissioned to replace many of the Fleet's lost exploration cruisers after the Dominion War. Command thought using the classic design that had represented the best era of Starfleet, would help return the Federation to its original mission and purpose. Dunvegan would later be repurposed as an emergency personal carrier, during the Romulan crisis following a retrofit to increase the combat prowess for the upcoming conflicts that plagued the first 20 years of the 25th century
Romulan Diplomacy and the Refugee Crisis
During the Romulan Star Crisis the DunVegan was repurposed as medical and refuge carrier to assist in the evacuation and relocation of the Romulan refugees. With a maximum capacity of 15,0000, the Galaxy classes became instrumental in the evacuation of the Romulan People. In 2384 the DunVegan was upgraded with a slipstream drive in order to expedite the evacuation and relocation of the survivors.
DunVegan would then go onto play host for several territorial negotiations as the refuges attempt to settle in new colonies in the Beta Quadrant.
Conflicts of the 25th Century
DunVegan would later undergo yet another retrofit taking on the role of a heavy troop transport and battle cruiser configuration. Both the DunVegan and her crew would go on to fight honorbaly in the Klingon War, Borg Advance, and lastly the Iconian War
2411 to 2417, DunVegan was assigned several deep space patrols as the many conflicts of the galaxy finally begin to settle down.
2417 Current Retrofit and Recommissioning
In 2417 the DunVegan was temporarily decommissioned and docked at the SOL shipyards to undergo a two year redesign, upgrade and retrofit. The final purpose was to restore DunVegan to the original design and intention of the Galaxy class series. By 2419 DunVegan was once again a ship of science and exploration. Currently under the command of Captain James L MacLeod and assigned to the 38th Fleet

Physical Arrangement & Crew Support
The hull configuration of the Galaxy-class adopts the saucer-type shape of previous starship classes, which of primary hull, secondary hull, and nacelles driven by the physics of warp generation and control. . The DunVegan-uses a duranium hull structure, a plasma-based power distribution system, and tricyclic life support systems.
Following the Starfleet standard, deck 1 is reserved for the main bridge, with the briefing room and captain’s ready room located to port and starboard sides of the bridge.
Further aft, the main navigational deflector dish is found at the fore side of the Galaxy-class’ secondary hull. Located right above the deflector are the forward photon torpedo launchers. On the underside of the secondary hull are three sets of plates that support the warp propulsion system. The forward plate covers the reserve intermix chamber; the middle plate contains the antimatter loading port, a large magnetic valve that kept the antimatter from coming in contact with matter during the transfer to the storage pods; and the aft cover plate contains the operational intermix chamber hatch, for ejecting the warp core in case of emergency.
One of the few Starfleet starship classes capable of "Saucer Separation". The design included to hull sections: a Saucer-shaped primary hull, and a detachable secondary hull which housed the ships primary engines. They could be reversibly separated, and were both equipped with independent flight and combat capabilities. Generally civilians and non-essential personnel would evacuate to the saucer module, while the senior staff confronted a threat in the battle section, which contained the majority of the weapons systems. The saucer is able to withstand crash landing on a planetary surface. However in dire situations, the saucer section could be still used in combat.
Command & Control Systems
DunVegan was most recently upgraded to the latest generation bio-neural gel packs and has undergone a full computer core replacement and operating system re-imaging. Process was completed in Mid 2418. Bio-neural gel packs are hybrid organic-electronic computing devices containing neural fibers surrounded in a blue gel with metallic interfaces on the top and bottom. They are designed to cache and facilitate information and data transmission throughout the ship, and store more information and operate at faster speeds than isolinear circuitry.
