The U.S.S. Harmony is an Intrepid-class vessel, retrofitted in the early 2390's as a test-bed for technology that would later become the standard on the Pathfinder-class. She has benefitted from advancements in almost all on-board systems, utilising the near latest in bio-neural gel-pack technology, metaphasic shielding, enhanced sensor packages, and weapons technology.

Much of the design philosophies were also inspired and adapted from the logs of U.S.S. Voyager, allowing her to face more lengthy deployments than were originally conceived for the Intrepid-class. She sports an advanced stellar cartography suite for long-distance scanning and navigation, and her captain's personal mess has been converted into a full mess and bar for all ranks to enjoy.

The ship was mothballed after the Pathfinder-class was approved, but redeployed again following the aftermath of the Iconian War in order to help fill out the fleet ranks after so many ships were damaged or destroyed, and also to promote Starfleet's renewed push to become an exploratory force. Her first mission in this new age - under the Captaincy of newly promoted Terrellia Natashin - was to shakedown her new systems past the Shackleton Expanse - an area shrouded in mystery and even legend. It is largely uncharted, save for the efforts of automated survey probes. Many of those probes have recorded onboard system issues when traversing the region, originally explained by various stellar phenomena that emit peculiar forms of electromagnetic and gravimetric distortions deemed hazardous to navigation. For this reason in particular, Starfleet’s efforts to push into the area have been limited, making it the perfect destination for the U.S.S. Harmony's shakedown cruise.

Following the end of the most recent conflicts with the Hur'q, Starfleet recalled the Harmony and reassigned her to the 38th Fleet.

Spoiler: Service HistoryShow
The USS Harmony was constructed at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards orbiting Mars and was launched from Earth Station McKinley on stardate 49081.1 in 2372. Harmony was one of the later Intrepid-class starships constructed and like all in the Intrepid-class lineage it featured a number of technological innovations that had become available in the 2370s: bio-neural circuitry, variable geometry warp nacelles, an Emergency Medical Holographic program and class 9 warp drive were only a few of Harmony's notable technical advancements.

Captain Daniel Spencer assumed command of Harmony a month before it disembarked from drydock.

The Harmony was initially to be sent on an extended survey mission into the Gamma Quadrant via the Bajorian Wormhole after her shakedown cruise, however; following the bombing of the Antwerp Conference in March of 2372, which in turn led to a failed coup attempt of Starfleet personnel under Admiral Leyton, those orders were rescinded. Harmony was instead ordered to Deep Space Five for a systems review as concerns regarding the Intrepid-class' reliability and longevity were being called into question by some following the unexplained disappearance of the USS Voyager, and the introduction of the Sovereign, Defiant, and Akira-class starships.

Harmony was eventually ordered into the seventh fleet during the outbreak of the Dominion War, and her fate was sealed in late 2374 as a Dominion vessel destroyed the starboard warp nacelle. Nearly three months later as Harmony sat in dry dock awaiting replacement parts, an unexplained power-surge through the EPS grid nearly triggered a warp-core breach in the station docks. The disaster was only narrowly averted.

Harmony was retired from active service on stardate 51267.2 and 'mothballed' owing to a lack of replacement parts thanks to the on-going conflict, and until perceived flaws in her design were addressed; Captain Spencer was offered command of the USS Genshin, where he served with distinction until his death in the later days of the Dominion War.

The ship was temporarily returned to service on stardate 69381.6 and brought up to contemporary standards, before being fitted with a new warp-plasma system, upgraded nacelles, borg-derived sensor and astrometric upgrades, and a modern command and control system to handle transwarp velocities. These improvements were continuously tweaked and the ship used as a test-bed for the Pathfinder class - eventually launched in 2410 - before Harmony was placed once retired from service as obsolete.

The ship remained in this inactive state until late 2414 and the aftermath of the Iconian War, where upon Starfleet Engineers brought it up to modern specifications and returned it to service with enhancements to almost all of her primary and secondary systems, including the installation of an enhanced warp-core capable not only of transwarp velocities, but also capable of pushing the ship into a quantum slipstream.

The ship was placed under the command of newly promoted Captain Terrellia Natashin, and assigned to Deep Space 13 as part of 38th Fleet 'Argo' to help bolster the Federation's presence in that sector.
