U.S.S. LAMIA
Starfleet Registry NCC-93514-C
Europa Class, Heavy Battlecruiser

The U.S.S. Lamia is a vessel of the Europa Class, serving in the role of heavy battlecruiser and exploration unit.
Commissioned in 2417 as part of the very first batch of Europa Class units, the Lamia was built in the shipyards at Utopia Planitia as part of the ongoing Starfleet efforts to increase its ranks after the Iconian War and in a climate of renewed hostilities against the Tzenkethi.
Built with surprising rapidity, the ship was scheduled for its maiden cruise at the end of the year, under the command of veteran Captain Mathias Keller, but with a crew mainly made by young and relatively unexperienced officers. After a patrol in the Orion sector, Starfleet deemed the vessel to be fit for duty, and thus assigned it to the 38th Fleet, in order to enhance the fleet's capabilities after the disastrous attack against its headquarters at Deep Space 13. For the next months, the Lamia performed its role as part of the task force assigned to defend the starbase remains during the reconstruction efforts.

Name and Motto:
Europa is the name of one of Jupiter's moons, and also a character of Greek mythology, so it comes as no surprise that the Lamia also derives its name from the homonymous character of the same mythology, and protagonist of one of the most famous poems by ancient Earth poet John Keats. A being with the ability to assume any aspect it wanted to, Lamia, as a beautiful woman, becomes the lover of a young philosopher, until his old master, during their wedding ceremony, unveils the truth about her in front of everyone, making her vanishing, and his young husband diyng for the pain of her disappearance.
The ship's motto is indeed taken from Keat's poem, and specifically on the part narrating Lamia's disappearance, often believed, in Earth literary tradition, to metaphorically represent the cold power of reason dissipating the veil of illusion of love and passions.

Previous vessels with the same name:
The Lamia is not the first vessel to bear this name in Starfleet ranks. The first one was the U.S.S. Lamia, NCC-935, a vessel of the Daedalus Class, which served during the Earth-Romulan War, being lost with all hands during the final stages of the same conflict. Starfleet commissioned a new vessel with the same name, but the registry number changed in 93514, in 2378, during the reconstruction efforts following the disasters of the Dominion War. However the vessel, of the Norway Class, did not enjoy a long career, being lost after just one year in service when a spatial anomaly triggered a cascade warp core failure, forcing the crew to abandon the vessel before it exploded. In 2380, a Luna Class vessel, registry number NCC-93514-A, became the third vessel bearing the name Lamia. It remained in service for twenty-five years, until 2405, when it was destroyed in a skirmish against the Klingons, though most of the crew managed to survive. The NCC-93514-B was commissioned as a vessel of the Trident Class, launched in 2407. The ship went lost with most of its crew during the Battle of the Jenolan Sphere.
