![]() The story of the U.S.S. Melqart starts in the past. The first ship to hold this name was the U.S.S. Melqart NCC-3577, Excelsior-class. Launched in the 2290, the ship remained in service for over 75 years. During its long career, the Melqart was destined during its first years to exploration missions all along the Alpha and the Beta Quadrants. Indeed, the ship made a name as exploration vessel, until more modern vessels weren't launched to expand the possibility of Starfleet in achieve its mission. In the mid of the XXIV century, the Melqart was moved to more standard and routine operations inside the Federal's territory. The ship was one of the victims of the battle of Wolf 359. The second ship to take the name will be a Intrepid class vessel, one of the first to get out the drydock after the Intrepid-prototype vessel and the U.S.S. Voyager. The Melqart, under the command of captain Lorraine De Mer, will be firstly dedicated to the exploration of part of the Badlands and the Typhon Expanse and, with the start of the war with the Dominion, will be moved to the 4th Special Detachment of the 7th Fleet. The Special Detachment was a flotilla destined to cover operations along the Dominion line, in an attempt to react to the Changelings' forces. The Detachment, in particular, was involved in several attempts to destroy the Ketracel White supply line while the factories were moved in the Alpha Quadrant. Also, always the Detachment, moved in support of the invasion of different key installations of the Cardassian Forces, in a desperate attempt to extend the line of the front. The missions were only partially successful and most of the ships lately joined the 2nd Fleet in its attack on the occupied Betazed. Most of the ship will be lost during the battles for Betazed. The Melqart joined then the conquest of Chin'toka, where will remains for few months before be moved, after some serious damages, back to safe space. The ship would join again an offensive on the last days of the war, during the final attack on Cardassia Prime. The Melqart survived the conflict with the Dominion, lost most of his crew, as many vessels and ships from all the quadrant. After the war, as Intrepid, the ship will join the renovated efforts of the Federation in the exploration. That until the 2408, when the ship, under Captain Catre Vandemar, joined the Omega Force, a special task force against the Borg. The ship performed pretty well against this threat, participating in raids and incursions in hostile environments to obstacle the advance of the adversary. In the 2410, with the discovery of the Dyson Sphere, a direct line to the Delta Quadrant, the ship is one of the five vessels moved there to wage battle against the Borg in their own space, or at least, trying to create a more efficient coalition against them. The efforts, despite the commitment of the ship's crew, will endure little. The war with the Iconians forces the command to recall all the vessels around the galaxy. During the war, the ship will firstly affronts the enemy in the orbit of Trill, then of Betazed and, at the end, on the orbit of New Berlin, where, with the U.S.S. Santa Fe, will encounter its end. Despite the odds, part of the crew (fifty people, included the first officer, the chief tactical officer Tarah and the chief engineer Tafeis), survived the battle and the consequent defense of the colony and joined the crew of the last ship to have the name Melqart, the U.S.S. Melqart, with a new registry number (92240) but a B, to remember the old vessels. The first mission of the ship, under the command of David Kriss Amburg-Larz as captain with the rank of commander, will be the rescue of a lost vessel, the U.S.S. Ulysses. The Esquiline-class Multi-mission Explorer went firstly inside the Gon'Tra Nebula, trying to find clues about the fate of the Ulysses and then, after months, will enter in the Gret Cluster (Called this way for the first race encountered, the Gret). There the crew of the Melqart met the Istarians, a xenophobic race with an imperialist attitude over the Gret Cluster, responsible for the destruction of the Ulysses, as soon they discovered. After months catching the few trails leaved by the Ulysses, the Melqart saved the remnants of the crew and escaped the cluster. After this mission, lasted two years, the ship will be assigned to a one-year assignment in the Delta Quadrant, where the ship will encounter three new species while exploring gas giants and lone planets. After that, the ship will join Commodore De La Torre and her task force for three years, before, in the 2417, the ship moved to Deep Space 13. |
