USS Atlantis

  U.S.S. ATLANTIS

Commissioned in 2291, the USS Atlantis (NCC-2020) was one of the original-production Block-I Excelsior Class starships. State of the art at the time, Atlantis entered service as a foremost vessel of exploration. By the mid-2300’s however, she was quickly outclassed by newer and longer-range exploration vessels. Atlantis, like many of her sister-ships, became relegated to more routine assignments within the Federation’s borders.

At the outbreak of war with the Dominion, Atlantis was assigned to the Seventh Fleet. In 2374, she was badly damaged at the Battle of Tyra, barely escaping destruction. The vessel would spend the next 8 months in drydock, undergoing emergency repairs. When Atlantis was finally spaceworthy, she was given an assignment away from the front lines: with the Fifth Fleet, operating out of Earth Spacedock. In 2375, Atlantis was again heavily damaged during the Breen Assault on Earth. Again, the vessel was placed in drydock, where it stayed for the remainder of the war. Repairs were completed shortly after the signing of the Treaty of Bajor. With the war over, Atlantis remained in Federation space, serving mainly as a training vessel, on relatively safe patrol routes near the heart of the Federation. In 2376, she was decommissioned and placed in a surplus depot.

Twenty-two years later, in response to rising tensions in the quadrant, Atlantis and dozens of other vessels were pulled from mothballs and made ready for service. In 2404, Atlantis was officially recommissioned (NCC-92381) and assigned to patrol operations in the Alpha Quadrant. The vessel participated in routine operations for the next decade.

In 2414, Atlantis was deployed to the defense of Starbase 234 during the Herald Invasion of new Romulus. Heavily damaged, the crew was forced to abandon ship. Several days later, Atlantis was located intact, and towed to Deep Space 13. There, the ship spent the next two months in drydock, under repair, before being permanently attached to that station.

Being attached to the command of Deep Space 13, Atlantis maintains a minimum crew of 200 onboard at all times. When assigned to a patrol, or launched in defense of the station, the remaining crew, including the ship’s senior staff, are assigned from the crew of the Starbase, filling the complement up to approximately 750.
