The Second Starfleet ship to bear the name Rutledge. The Original Rutledge (New Orleans class frigate) most known for her actions in the Cardassian Boarder wars under command of the Infamous Captain Benjamin Maxwell, as well as her role in the Task Force lead by Captain Picard to expose the Romulan involvement behind the Klingon Civil War, and lead Starfleet actions during the Federation-Klingon War of 2373.

The Current Rutledge is among the first Sutherland class released off the line following the end of the Iconian War. While still less then a year off the line, the Rutledge has already distinguished herself most notably in the rescue mission of the USS Helios survivors. Only time will tell however, if the new Rutledge will prove to be a worthy successor to her ancestor.
