BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS

Serris is a 27-year-old H'Tarran native to the H'Tarran refugee colony on Toron V. The Zital family were renowned for their prowess in competitive artistic gymnastics, with a history of medals in international competitions dating back five generations. Naturally, Serris was raised with a very acrobatic lifestyle, becoming very technically proficient at the sport at a young age.

During routine practice at the family's gym, Serris's younger brother sustained severe brain trauma in a vaulting accident, but due to Toron V's naturally intense gravity well and its effects on modern propulsion technology, they were unable to get him to a sufficiently advanced treatment facility at a nearby Starbase before he succumbed to cerebral hemorrhage and died.

This family trauma drove Serris to study engine technology and the physics involved in manipulating space and gravity. He was one of the first H'Tarrans to apply to Starfleet Academy, where he made a strong impression academically and athletically, though his dedication to his studies caused him to develop anti-social tendencies and withdraw from the few extracurricular activities he'd signed up for. By his third year at the Academy, he'd earned enough credits to graduate early. This afforded him the opportunity to participate in, and eventually oversee, warp engine development at the Antares IV shipyard under the Starfleet Corps of Engineers. While there, he began researching applied subspace theory as a part of his doctorate program, and stumbled upon an incident report from the Enterprise-D mission logs. Alien technology had influenced a crew member to take control of the ship's computer and manipulate subspace in a way that had never been seen before, or attempted since. Unfortunately, since the computer had been compromised, no sensor records or system logs were recorded.

Using testimonials from the post-incident debriefings as a basis for a new theory, Serris posited that it may be possible to create a resonant warp field that synchronizes with the matter state of another object, causing instant transposition via quantum entanglement. The thesis circulated through many engineering and science journals, and earned him an invitation to become a fellow of astrophysics at the Daystrom Institute in Okinawa, Japan. Thrilled at the prospect of researching this theory full time, he requested to have his commission deactivated and relocated to Earth, working with a specialized civilian team at Daystrom to try and create a proof of concept.

After two years of continued failure, Serris grew frustrated with his inability to produce results. Looking for inspiration in real technology in real situations, he requested reinstatement of his Starfleet commission and completed a 90-day remedial training course before shipping out to Deep Space 13.

MEDICAL HISTORY

PHYSICAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT
STATUS: OK for active duty
UP TO DATE: Y
EVALUATOR: Lt. Cmdr. Charlotte Adler, Starfleet Academy Medical Training School
NOTES:
Lieutenant Zital requires quarters equipped with gravity plating capable of outputting sustained 5.6G, and must remain in high gravity for at least nine hours per day to avoid muscle atrophy or loss of bone density. He is to donate one pint of blood once every two to three days to avoid complications with variable gravity. 6,000 calorie minimum diet, nutritional needs on file.

MENTAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT
STATUS: OK for active duty
UP TO DATE: Y
EVALUATOR: Lieutenant J.G. Karim Idaris, Starfleet Academy Medical Training School
NOTES:
Lieutenant Zital is a very rational thinker, but I believe he may have an irrational aversion to social situations that merits further examination. Possible nervous or anxiety disorder. This doesn't seem to affect his work, but may pose a personal challenge when integrating into a new environment. Recommend meeting with a counselor once every four weeks.
