LOCATION: USS Endeavour.

MISSION: Locate the source of the illness on the Herussa Colony.

OUTCOME: Contamination found in the fertilliser used to fertilise crops, which was then absorbed into the crops and ingested by the colonists.

KEY PERSONNEL:
CAPT Z. Sel
CMDR C. Jarnefelt
CMDR A. Samaras
LT J. Read
LT (JG) S. Tsurugi
ENS A. White

NARRATIVE: Following on from the previous AAR, when a team consisting of Lieutenants Read and Valencia visited the Herussa Colony to deliver supplies and found that the colonists were suffering from a sickness, the above listed officers were tasked with analysing the samples collected from the planet to find the cause of the illness.

Analysing the air, water, and soil samples revealed no sign of any contaminations, though the scans on the colonists showed an increase of a variant of Deoxynivalenol within the stomach and intestine linings. Further analysis of the stomach acid revealed that this came from the cereal-based foods that the colonists ingested. The chemical was later verified by this officer and Lieutenant Read when we returned to the colony to scan their farming fields and crop storage.

The chemical composition of the Deoxynivalenol revealed that it was carefully manufactured to hide from passive scans, and was meant to appear naturally occurring during all but the most intensive scans. It was clear that this chemical was synthesised on purpose, and tracing the fertiliser back, we managed to find that the chemical recipe for the fertiliser came from Xeos Chemicals, which we found was a subsidiary of TSTT.

RECOMMENDATION: There are 63 colonies that are supplied with the same fertiliser. It is recommended that we cease trading with Xeos Chemicals and make them aware of this clear sabotage. I highly recommend that we deploy medical ships to these colonies to prevent further deaths.

OOC: This is the AAR for the implannedtu event "A Bitter Pill to Swallow". Event Logs available on request.
