OUTCOME Initial patrol by USS Hornet interrupted by alien First Contact event. Being helped and then later returned home. Being(s) wished no further Federation contact at this time.

NARRATIVE On above listed stardate, USS Hornet was deployed on Neutrality Patrol on the Federation side of the Azedi/Federation border. During this time, runabouts Corsair and Devraux were deployed to investigate a located dark matter anomaly.
Upon return, Corsair had Devraux under tow via tractor beam, as the Devraux had lost all power, requiring emergency transport of all five crew members to the Corsair. This was despite attempts to repair the fault, which resulted in electrical burns to Ensign Victoria Malloy. During the approach to Hornet, Corsair begain exhibiting same power systems failures that Devraux had reported. At this time, both runabouts were ordered to terminate their landing approach and await further orders.
USS Thrasher under command of Commander Kora zh’Vhenda was dispatched to make visual scans of the runabouts, which yielded no damage. Both crews were beamed aboard Thrasher and the two runabouts were towed back to Hornet after no initial issues were determined (More on this later). Both Corsair and Devraux were deposited safely in Hornet’s main hangar bay, and Thrasher returned to duty station off Hornet’s port side.
At this time, medical teams in full hazard gear were deployed to the hangar bay, and both runabout crews were scanned for any hazardous materials or infectants. None were found. Doctor T’Evoryn was allowed to examine the Devraux, while Doctor Valusia tended to Ensign Malloy and the needs of the runabout crews. It was determined that there were possible anomalous readings coming from the contained dark matter sample that the Devraux science team and obtained, and that carbon based life readings were coming from the sample.
During the examination of the Devraux, continued CAP operations commenced. It was at this point that a Valkyrie (no.213), from VFA 111 was attempting to cycle into the queue when it suffered a catastrophic failure and complete loss of power. Pilot was evacuated with no injury. Reports from other stations aboard the Hornet reported systems failures and malfunctions. This was when contact was made with the being to be known as Vorai of the Voraill. This was made possible by LTJG Oolop who deciphered the numbers being displayed not as error codes but hexadecimal communication. During this time, Thrasher exhibited full failure of systems save for life support.
Vorai stated it had been picked up on accident by the Devraux which had noticed the dark matter orbiting a micro black hole. Vorai stated it was from a race that had since become pure energy and a single consciousness. It had apologized for any harm it had caused. Once contact had been established via psychic link via Doctor T’Evoryn, as well as translation algorithm created by LTJG Oolop, all malfunctions ceased, even as far as Thrasher reporting systems restoration.
Vorai was returned to its location of origin. Brief contact was made with the Voraill, who thanked the Hornet for the return of their member, but wished no further contact with the Federation at this time. Location marked in this report, in case communication is requested, as well as to create a safe zone for these people. As a parting “thank you” Vorai uploaded into Hornet’s main computer, hundreds of terabytes of data in regards to their people.
RECOMMENDATION Hazard markers deployed at location of dark matter anomaly. Request attached location be entered into database as a hazard/avoid location. Recommend Hornet department heads to evaluate their department systems in order to harden them further against intrusion via abnormal means.
RECOGNITION All noted crew performed above expectations and with valor. First Contact could not have proceeded as well as it did without the crew rising above.
