LOCATION Itrin Sector
MISSION Investigate the foreign object travelling at relativistic speeds near the Itrin Sector’s southern border
OUTCOME Foreign object was discovered to be a mechanically-failing sleeper ships, housing several adults and a large group of eggs. All transferred to the USS Mariner for stabilisation and remaining in stasis until Starfleet Command’s orders.

NARRATIVE The USS Mariner was dispatched to investigate an unknown object travelling at sublight speed. Ensign Vemok was granted command of the USS Mariner for the duration of this mission by Captain Tolar, with the low stakes mission providing opportunity to gain experience. Approaching the object, the Mariner ran scans, identifying it as a relatively primitive spacecraft. Fission energy sources were detected, later proven to originate from a cargo of (estimated) 50,000 hydrogen bombs. It is believed that these bombs are to be used as fuel, with the explosion propelling the craft (similar to the abandoned Earth Project Orion).
Life forms were detected, and at Captain Tolar’s suggestion an away team was dispatched, consisting of Lieutenant Vaas and Ensigns Felenn, O’hala and Reyes. The interior was consistent with early Earth spacecraft, with a non-toxic atmosphere, although EV suits were worn to protect against radiation from the hydrogen bombs. Four mature crew were assigned to the ship, in stasis pods that were close to failure upon the Mariner’s arrival, although the next section was sealed. The occupants were transported aboard the Mariner to stabilise, and are still kept in stasis.
The Mariner was detected by the spacecraft’s proximity sensors, however no countermeasures were utilised - it is theorised that this alert was supposed to awake the crew, but failed. Ensign Felenn interfaced with the computer systems, accessing logs which detailed that the species was in the midst of a cold war when they discovered an incoming asteroid that they could not adjust the trajectory of. It is believed that this sleeper ship was dispatched to preserve their race, and believed that the spacecraft has travelled at least five lightyears.
When the next section was unlocked, it was revealed that the ship carried tens of thousands of eggs in refrigeration units. The Mariner’s cargo bay four was repurposed to house and keep the frozen eggs.
RECOMMENDATION It is the recommendation of this officer that the crew of the sleeper-ship are returned to health and kept in stasis while their homeworld is found. If they cannot be returned to this world, a suitable uninhabited planet should be found to house them.
