MISSION Locate possible crash site of VSS Gyya after wreckage located by sensor flyby

OUTCOME Wreckage of VSS Gyya located. Five survivors rescued and brought safely aboard USS Forrestal

NARRATIVE On the above listed stardate, while performing sensor and reconnaissance flights of Okchii I, Peregrines from CAG 10 located what was possibly composite metals on the surface of the planet. These composite metals were not something that would occur naturally on the planet, and would suggest the presence of a possible wrecked ship. These findings were confirmed by SWACS shuttles, and also confirmed by sensors aboard USS Forrestal

At this time, citing the remote chance of survivors, Captain Vel lifted the away team restriction to the surface of the planet. An away team consisting of LCDR’s zh’Vhenda, Valusia, and LT’s Drush and Vardi, deployed by runabout to the surface due to planetary interference blocking transporters.

On the surface, the away team began to exhibit emotional and physical distress, immediately identified to be the “sentient” trees in the area. This information was obtained from prior missions, and used to establish an effective barrier to the trees influence. A combination of EVA suits, pheromone blockers, and physic counter were devised which proved effective in treating the tree’s influence.

After some distance on foot, the wreckage of the VSS Gyya was confirmed, and promptly secured. Once entry was gained into the ship, five stasis pods were located, of which each contained a surviving member of the crew, for a confirmed total of five survivors. Stasis pods were secured and transported safely to the USS Forrestal

RECOMMENDATION Full debrief of VSS Gyya survivors when they are physically and mentally ready to do so. Prohibit further travel to Okchii I.

ADDENDUM
Five survivors of the Vulcan ship, the VSS Gyya, were brought onboard the USS Forrestal, by medical transporter, into Medbay as quarantine.

As mentioned, the “sentient trees” produced a pheromone based on C3H9N, which, in combination with a naturally occurring weak carrier radio-frequency field at 41.33 (repeating) Hz, caused extreme emotional distress to those in the open air. Either one of these elements are capable of mild emotional disturbance but the combination of the two increases the potency in carbon-based life-forms with trace amine-associated receptors.

It was only by a combination of solutions that we could overcome the intense reactions, which included, hallucinations, despair, PTSD triggering, hysteria, etc…, by utilizing a SSRI, quick delivery with time release, and a reactive RF field to phase cancel the radiating field.

LT Vella Vardi and I have been carefully monitoring the wake-up of the Vulcan patients, and though brought up to consciousness under sedation, they still exhibit signs of extreme emotional distress. It is apparent that long term exposure has damaged their ability to suppress emotional response, which further exacerbates the dysphoria they are feeling. This is a similar result to male thralls in Orion sub-culture who have spent long periods under the influence of pheromonic output of an Orion Female.

On LT Vardi’s recommendation, we have implemented a regimen of targeted pheromone blockers and with counseling, though it should be noted that the counselor, LT Mina Letana, recommended we request specific counseling that caters to Vulcan Kolinahr styled teachings.

Preliminary examinations of the members of the away team seem to indicate a full recovery from the effects of the planet’s environment. I am however prophylactically prescribing periodic counseling sessions for 8 weeks for those of us on the away team to verify no lasting effects due to exposure.

RECOMMENDATIONS Request Vulcan counselors administer to the emotionally damaged patients. Recommend quarantine of Okchii I, with Prime Directive protocols in place from here on out, given the flora that seems to have sentience to avoid any further corruption of species development. Recommend away-team members attend counseling sessions once a week for 8 weeks to verify no lasting effects.
