LOCATION Trina System, Kelterre Sector

MISSION Make First Contact with the Trinian people. Return Kali-Sagara station to Trinian possession.

OUTCOME Successful contact was established with tentatively positive outcomes. Trinian Elder Soshinurizzem did request the return of Kali-Sagara, which was successfully facilitated.

NARRATIVE First Contact team briefly met aboard USS Reyga to coordinate on first contact strategy. As Elder Koenraddyariel of the Itrin was aboard, we decided it would be wiser to withhold sharing about his presence until we were more assured of the Trina welcoming him.

We transferred to the USS Atlantis and transited through to the Trina terminus, then approached Trina II. Captain Kermit worked with ops to select a suitable communications line for hailing and reached out. Those that answered the line were primarily curious about Kali-Sagara, then about our motivations. The Captain was able to reassure them that we merely wanted a dialogue, so we were provided coordinates to meet face to face.

We beamed down to a small facility overlooking a population center, where we met Elder Soshinurizzem. She seemed most curious about the status of the region outside ‘the cradle’, a term they use to refer to their own region inside of the Potter’s Field anomaly, and especially the status of the Itrin diaspora. While she seemed momentarily despondent at the revelation that the Itrin population had been significantly diminished, Captain Kermit and Ensign Vemok were both quick to try and reassure her that though atrocities do occur, there were those of us working very hard to make the galaxy better than we found it, rather than worse.

The Elder went on to explain that in the aftermath of Trina’s decision to sever their connection to the outside galaxy, it had ultimately been a self-defeating choice. Rather than serving as a protective or defensive measure, it instead stifled them and made them unable to continue progression as a society. The Elder confirmed that she would like Kali-Sagara returned and agreed to meet with Elder Koenraddyariel.

Ensign Vemok and I were permitted to stay on the premises while their meeting ensued. The Trinians were most hospitable; we were not allowed to leave the retreat to explore, but they were willing to provide us with a selection of refreshments and a small selection of Trinian history for us to review. The Trinians also asked if we would be amenable to having our physiology scanned, as it is the first time they were encountering our species; both the Ensign and I consented.

The meeting between the two Elders lasted a considerable amount of time, but by the end they had come to some tentative agreements. The Itrin refugees will be permitted to return to Trina for a trial period. Due to the presence of numerous equivalent technologies on the Itrin homeworld up until its destruction, the Itrin’s baseline understanding and ability to train others will be greater than the Trinians who have allowed their training and development to lapse over the centuries.

We have submitted updates to the data net for the astrometrics profile for the Trina star system.

RECOMMENDATION Follow-up operation planned for bringing the Itrin refugees from the station to their hopefully new permanent home.

We should continue fostering a positive relationship with Trina in whatever capacity they will permit. Given the Trina terminus continues to operate with only a roughly three hour window, they recognize the safety this provides their home system is unparalleled, and generally allows them to fully control the terms of their interaction with the remainder of the galaxy. They seem unlikely to engage in another attempt to isolate themselves.
